Is This Correct? I Just Want To Share A Missed Opportunity In Life

The Story

I would like to use the anonymous forum on this site so that I can share some of my experiences and worries that have been bothering me lately. At the risk of my post becoming annoying, I will start from the beginning. I will not mention any company names for reasons of confidentiality. The field is IT support. Last year I got a very good opportunity to work in a large international company, part of the Fortune 500. I was more than satisfied. Excellent 4 digit salary, social package, cool colleagues, I learned a lot about the IT field, in general everything is OK. However, a very unpleasant moment came for me when I was fired. They did not give me any logical explanation. They pointed out as a reason various of my writings on the Internet / to be honest, sometimes I write whatever I like / and came across idiotic videos on Youtube with my participation. They said that it badly affects my image, a lot of nonsense and I was fired during the probationary period, a time when they don't have to explain to me at all what I'm being fired for. Later I learned from people who still work there that a close childhood friend and fellow citizen of the team leader who is a native of a poor Danube city wants to settle in Sofia and is looking for a job. You understand.

Anyway. I still can't live with the humiliation I was subjected to. Shortly after I was fired, I went for interviews. I passed a lot. I missed a few positions at HP, which I'm very angry about. Hewlett Packard is an old childhood dream of mine, but what to do? I was called to an American financial company, which I will call the American Company for short. Some of the programmers and support outsourced in Bulgaria. The position was for internal IT support. The first telephone interview with the manager, who is from America, went well. He asked me normal questions. Two weeks later, I was called for a second interview at the same company. That I can say was a stressful interview. I will tell you about the questions that I thought were stupid, but they often asked me in interviews. - “If it was an animal what animal would it be?” I replied “dog”. - "OK, what breed of dog?" I answered "Greyhound" - "Okay, but why exactly a greyhound" I answered "Well because I like to hunt. "Actually, I hate hunting and I don't like greyhounds, but that first came to my mind. Then she told me to give an example of blunders in my previous work that is similar to the position I applied for.

Of course, I didn't tell her once how I unwittingly deleted the entire mailbox of one of the managers, I didn't tell her how I delayed the translations of some documents that were important and the boss almost fired me, I didn't tell her that sometimes when I don't know something and I get hyper annoying in my questions to my colleagues, I didn't tell her that I confused some accounts of one from the partners of the company and if the accountant had not seen him I would have dragged the company with a few thousand levs, etc. I just imagined imaginary situations in which there was little truth and which were not some striking and irreparable blunders. I wonder managers and HR and why ask such questions? It's as if some people want to get the job and admit everything. Naturally, she also asks me about my positive qualities, which I pointed out to her. She also asked me, "Why should I hire you and not the other candidate?",

And I simply replied that I did not know the other candidate and could not make any comparison. She said something like, "Won't you try to sell yourself to me, young man?" Then I told her that I was so stuck that I was ready to work overtime for no money, that the job overlapped with my previous experience, that I could be infinitely dedicated to my job, etc. Naturally to the question "Do you have any questions? ”I had prepared to ask her in advance. I asked how many vacancies there are and how many people are fighting for them. She said that after the first interview she sifted me and another candidate for only one job. I asked her in detail about the nature of the work, the most common problems, their solutions, etc. Just to make a good impression and find out exactly what I would do if they stopped at me.

The American lady told me that she would call me in two weeks, even if she said no. And what actually happened. More than a month and a half have passed since the last interview. I didn't stop looking for a job. On Monday, I started training in a large technology company. It is only a month, but according to colleagues there, anyone who shows a desire to work, even if there is no technical IT background is welcome to work. Almost everyone who went through the training period of a month was then hired on a permanent basis. This period is paid symbolically enough to cover the cost of transport and lunch. For the IT sector, the salary in this company is not high, but on the other hand there is company security, it is paid on time, and the old colleagues are very cool and always help the juniors.

On Friday afternoon, one of the programmers from the American company called me. The first time I didn't pick him up because I was taking my dog out and I had left my phone at home. He texted me something like "I'm calling you for something nice, and you're not picking me up." Honestly, at first, I thought she was a secret suitor. :) I returned his call, and he scolded me for not carrying my phone with me as if I had to wait for a call from him at any time. He said that the American stopped at me and wanted us to sign the contract on Monday.

I had promised to start training at the other company and told him I needed time to think. I didn't tell him I had another commitment. He said, OK, and he'll call me in a few hours. He called me that evening. He said new orders were coming from the United States. The American manager decided to take both of us from the last interviews, which took place about a month and a half ago. However, the other person had to take notice of his current job for a month. In order to hire us both, I had to wait that long. I told him OK, great. He offered to come on Monday to see the pocket description and the contract. I melted with pleasure.

Things came together perfectly for me. If I don't pass the training in the company or I don't like it, I have a backup, surely another job opportunity. The office of the American company and the one where I started my training are very close to each other. I jumped off my lunch break on Monday. The programmer who had called me and greeted me was exactly as I had imagined him, shaggy, fat, unshaven, difficult to communicate and uncommunicative. He showed me the contract and the job description. The latter 90% covered my qualifications and abilities. However, the contract pleasantly surprised me. I expected to be offered a net salary of no more than euros 700-800. The contract said 1700 gross salary, which means about 1300 net/net/salary. I call myself "Bray super. My happiness smiled." The starting date of the contract was 07/05/2013, a month and a few days after the Monday we met. I told him, "OK, the offer is great, but I'll come sign the contract next week." Tamman would judge if it was worth the training I had started. However, he said "No.

The American manager said to sign it today." I told him that there was more than a month until the start date, but he said that he had to bring my employment contract to the NRA. As far as I know, it will not be a problem to bring it even when the work starts, but to have intrigue. I told him I needed at least a few days to think. He told me, "OK, I'll tell your manager you need time to think, but call me tomorrow. Be ready to even come to sign the contract tomorrow, because otherwise it will be assumed that you have refused the job offer. "We agreed. I called him the next Tuesday morning. He told me the following." Sorry, brother, the boss is disappointed in you, he said your number won't work, you can't be so naughty, and today he's starting to interview someone else. the position for which it was approved.

"Maybe he deliberately told me to tease me" Well, it's time until May 7, there will always be some until then. ":( I'm going to get angry. :( So far they have never offered me such a high salary. On the other hand, I wonder if their behavior is correct? Briefly summarized. To be called to the 1st interview, ok. Call me in a second in two weeks and ask me a series of stupid questions, OK. However, to call me a month and a half after the second interview and tell me that I will be able to start working for them, but after another month / in which I am unemployed and I am not even entitled to benefits from the stock exchange /, I do not think so OK. When I want a delay of at most a week to think, given that the start date is after more than a month .... and they cut me off it seems very incorrect. What do you think?

Do you agree with me? On top of that, the 4th day of training seems quite high to me. The matter is foreign to me and it will take me months to get used to it. However, the experience will be good and very positive for my CV. The salary, the following for the country. It seems to me that this is a classic embodiment of the saying that "He who pays, he orders the music."

The American, looking for cheap labor in Bulgaria, does what she wants and plays the poor Bulgarians. Are you impressed that the few young and quality people left in Bulgaria who have some potential, capacity, education, know languages work for foreign companies that outsource here? Thank you for listening to me. I just needed to write this story about missed opportunities in life. I am grateful to you.
