Biography

Modern world literature, and Russian in particular, is filled with one-day writers, but at the same time there is a shortage of quality works that raise relevant topics. And 38 years ago in the issue of "Moskovsky Komsomolets" appeared a small poem by the then unknown poet Polyakov Yuri. The talent of the young poet was appreciated by both readers and literary critics, therefore, already in 1982, the young man was regularly published in literary publications.

Childhood and youth

Polyakov Yuri Mikhailovich was born into a simple Moscow family on November 12, 1954. Mikhail Timofeevich Polyakov worked at the plant as an electrician, and Lydia Ilyinichna as a technologist. As a child, the boy loved to read, as a teenager he began to write poetry. The biography of the writer does not reveal facts about his childhood, therefore, practically nothing is known about how Yuri grew up.

The literary talent of the gifted guy was discovered by his teacher of the Russian language and literature. Considering the abilities and inclinations of the young man, he easily decided on his future profession. After graduating from school, Yuri entered the Moscow Regional Pedagogical Institute. N.K. Krupskaya (now the Moscow State Regional University).

While still a student, Yuri taught Russian language and literature at a Moscow school. And at the age of 19, Polyakov enrolled in the Literary Studio at the Moscow City Committee of the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth Union in Moscow.

Having received a diploma in Russian philology, the young man read a course in the Russian language and literature in a special educational institution for working young people - a school for working youth. But soon Yuri went to the army. During the service, the tenacious glance and critical mind of the novice writer noted all the shortcomings of the military service of the Soviet Union.

First of all, Yuri was struck by the level of hazing in the Russian army. Polyakov did his military service as a loader of the Akatsiya self-propelled artillery unit in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany, an operational-strategic formation of the troops of the USSR Armed Forces. Then the image of the future work has already matured in his head.

Literature

Having attended the seminar of the Soviet poet Larisa Nikolaevna Vasilyeva, Yuri began to hone his skills in writing poetry. The beginning writer studied prose under Vadim Vitalievich Sikorsky. In 1974, when Yuri was still a student of the Faculty of Philology, the daily periodical Moskovsky Komsomolets published the first poem by Polyakov, and three years later the same newspaper published a whole cycle of poems by the young poet.

During his service in the ranks of the Soviet army, Yuri hatched the idea of a future story, however, returning to Moscow, he got a job in the school department of the Bauman district committee of the Komsomol, postponing literary work for a while. But after working for only one year, Polyakov became a correspondent for the weekly newspaper of the board and the party committee of the writers 'organization of the Writers' Union of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in Moscow "Moscow Literator".

Over time, the talented journalist took over as editor-in-chief. In 1979, Yuri began to cooperate with the socio-political weekly Literaturnaya Gazeta. Working in journalism, Polyakov did not leave plans for literary activity. In 1979, Yuri published the first collection of poetry "Time of arrival", and two years later the book of poems "Conversation with a friend" was published. But the poetry did not bring the long-awaited popularity to the author.

Back in the early 1980s, Yuri sat down for his first serious work, "One Hundred Days to Order." The idea of the work was hatched by Polyakov since the days of his military service. The story was based on the main social problem of the Soviet army at that time - hazing. Despite the obvious artistic value of the work, the military censorship did not let it go to print.

Only in 1987, during an unstable political situation in the country, after an incident with a German plane landing in the very center of Moscow, Andrei Dmitrievich Dementyev, editor-in-chief of the literary and art magazine "Yunost", decided to publish Polyakov's story. Dementyev responded sharply to the objections of the censors, recalling the events with the German plane that served as the failure of the Soviet army.

In 1990, a film directed by Hussein Erkenov, based on the story of Yuri, was released on television. However, the author himself did not rate it highly, saying that it was filmed not realistically, but in the style of surrealism. Two years earlier, "A Hundred Days Before the Order" in the same edition published the story "State of emergency on a regional scale", which was also filmed.

Having become popular, Yuri Mikhailovich released several socio-philosophical novels in the 1990s, which were highly appreciated by both readers and critics.

Simultaneously with his literary work, the writer was preparing his Ph.D. thesis on the work of the Soviet poet and writer Georgy Kuzmich Suvorov. In 1981, Yuri Mikhailovich defended his dissertation, received the degree of candidate of philological sciences and became a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR.

In 2001, Polyakov took up the post of editor-in-chief of Literaturnaya Gazeta, with which he worked for 22 years. The writer gained wide popularity in journalism in the 2000s after the publication of the socio-political essays "The Silence of the Kremlin".

Among literary critics, the work of Yuri Polyakov is usually attributed to the style of grotesque realism. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Polyakov's books were translated into foreign languages, included in the school curriculum, and the lyrics of poems formed the basis of songs.

Having achieved fame in the literary field, Yuri Mikhailovich went to conquer Russian television. In 2010, the writer appeared on the screens as the host of the "Context" program on the state channel "Russia-Culture". Thanks to his active social and political position, two years later, Yuri Mikhailovich was included in the list of V.V. Putin's proxies.

Personal life

Yuri Mikhailovich prefers not to talk about his personal life. It is known that the writer is married to Natalya Ivanovna Polyakova, who is a programmer by profession.

In marriage, the couple had their only daughter, Alina, who followed in her father's footsteps and became a philologist. Alina Yurievna is married to Maxim Sheludyakov. Polyakov's daughter gave birth to the writer two grandchildren - Yegor and Lyubov.

fact

Yuri Polyakov now

Carried away by politics, the writer did not leave art, but slightly changed the direction of his activities. Now Yuri Mikhailovich writes plays that are gathering full halls not only in Russian theaters, but also outside the country. Now the writer has become an active political figure, is a member of the Council for Culture and Arts and the presidium of the Society of Russian Literature.

In the fall of 2016, a book from the Life of Remarkable People series entitled “The Last Soviet Writer” was published, dedicated to the work of Yuri Polyakov. And in January 2017, the author presented the readers with a collection of poems, stories and essays "Migration Elite".

In the summer of 2017, Yuri Mikhailovich took part in the Volga Wave literary festival, which took place in the form of seminars and round tables on a steamer cruising along the Volga. Given the active political position of the writer, in November 2017 he visited Sevastopol, where he spent a recital with fans of his work. For the same reason, Yuri Mikhailovich is prohibited from entering the territory of neighboring Ukraine.

In the same 2017, the book "Beyond Inspiration" was published, which the author himself calls "memoir journalism." In the work, Yuri Mikhailovich reveals the secrets of the success of his works, talks about political and cultural events in Russia in the 90s in general and in person (for example, he recalls the acquaintance and death of the famous journalist Vladislav Listyev).

In addition, Yuri Polyakov is a frequent guest on political talk shows on television and radio. In the program "Minority Opinion", which is aired on the radio station "Echo of Moscow", the writer appears almost monthly, discussing with the host the acute political and social issues of modern Russia.
