The virtuoso guitarist Yuri Kasparyan is well known to fans of Russian rock. With only a music school behind him, he is considered one of the best bass players of our time. At the very beginning of his career he joined the "Kino" group and remained in it until the death of Viktor Tsoi.

The biography of Yuri Kasparyan begins in the city of Simferopol, where his mother rested in 1963. It was here on June 24 that the future musician was born. The boy's parents had nothing to do with creativity. Father Dmitry Rafaelovich worked as an entomologist, mother Irina Solomonovna worked as a biologist. The family lived in Leningrad.

After some time, he became a friend and like-minded person of Viktor Tsoi. In his youth, his playing did not reach the required level, but Tsoi always protected the guitarist from the dissatisfaction of other musicians. He reasonably believed that the main thing is human qualities, which Yuri had at their best, and professionalism would come. And, as time has shown, he was not mistaken. Kasparyan played in the group all the years of its existence, up to 1990.

During this time, the collective recorded 8 albums: "46", "Night", "Head of Kamchatka", "This is not love", "Blood type", "A star named the sun", "French album", "Black album" (was finalized and recorded by musicians after the death of Viktor Tsoi).

In 1985, Kasparyan began playing in the Pop Mechanics group, which was founded by Sergey Kuryokhin. Musicians from "Aquarium", "AVIA", "AuktsYona" and others also played in it.

In 1987, when Tsoi left to shoot the film "Needle", Kasparyan, together with Georgy Guryanov and other musicians of "Kino", as well as "New Composers" came up with the "Start" project. The songs were not recorded in the studio. There is a note on the album that they are all rehearsal material. In 2015, the disc was restored, finalized and released for sale. The CD version was released in 2016.

In the troubled time of the early 90s, when many creative people rushed in search of a certain "philosopher's stone" and tried to invent a "square wheel", Kasparyan did not stand aside and left the stage for a while. He studied esotericism and philosophy. During these years, the guitarist collaborated with art groups (then he met the future godfather Sergei de Rocambol), participated in conceptual projects, experimented with a combination of musical directions. In 1996 he recorded a solo album "Dragon Keys".

In the same years, Kasparyan intersects with Vyacheslav Butusov. Together with him and de Rocambol in 1997, an album was recorded with the pretentious title "Illegitimate Al-Chemist Doctor Faust - the Feathered Serpent".

Together with the same Butusov and musician from the "Kino" group Igor Tikhomirov, Kasparyan has been working since 1999 on the "Star Padl" project for 2 years. This led to unhealthy press hype. In particular, they wrote that the Kino group will soon revive with a new vocalist (meaning Butusov in this role).

The musicians themselves openly denied this scenario. As a result, the album turned out to be of different genres. In it, some compositions refer to jazz improvisations, while others, for example, to funk. One composition - "Hamburg" - is even referred to as chanson, but in the original, not Russian, sense of the word.

In 2001 Kasparyan and Vyacheslav Butusov created the U-Piter group. Yuri began to tour actively. In addition to the founders, keyboardist Oleg Sakmarov and drummer Evgeny Kulakov played in the collective. The repertoire includes original compositions and songs of the Kino and Nautilus groups. Already in 2003, they released their first album "The Name of the Rivers". It includes 11 songs. The band played a jubilee concert in honor of the 15th anniversary in the Moscow Crocus City Hall. And in 2017, the team ceased to exist.

On the 20th anniversary of the death of Viktor Tsoi, a big concert was held, at which the groups performed covers of the musician's songs. In the pauses, symphonic versions of compositions performed by the "Globalis" orchestra sounded.

In 2010, Yuri became one of the authors and founders of the Symphonic Cinema project. Its essence is that favorite songs, once sung by Viktor Tsoi, are performed by the orchestra. Symphonic versions of the compositions were written by Igor Vdovin for the festival "20 years without cinema". They were warmly received by the audience.

The project today has no analogues in the world of Russian rock. "Symphonic Cinema" is produced by Alexander Tsoi, the son of Viktor Tsoi. The premiere of the concert took place on the anniversary of the legendary musician's birthday.

After the premiere concert, the program was taken to the cities of Russia and neighboring countries. Full halls gathered everywhere. The apotheosis can be called a performance in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic. Kasparyan's guitar combined with the State Hermitage Orchestra conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo gave an amazing effect. The eternal hits of the "Kino" group sang, which the audience gathered in the hall sang.

On the occasion of Viktor Tsoi's 55th birthday, Kasparyan, together with the Kukryniksy group, recorded a cover of the song “We are with you” from the Black Album. Previously, the collective has already performed some songs from the Kino repertoire.

In 2017, the funk disco group CHIC Project was born. Yuri Kasparyan became its founder. The idea came up during one of the rehearsals of the Symphonic Cinema project. The grain fell on fertile ground, because in the 80s the members of the Kino group were inspired by the work of the American group CHIC, which played in the funk disco style.

The musician does not hide his personal life, but does not advertise either. It is known that he is married twice. For the first time - in 1987 - on Joanna Stingray. You can rightfully say that music brought them together. Joanna is an American actress, singer, social activist and producer.

She was very passionate about Russian rock and contributed to its popularization outside the USSR. In fact, the woman was the first producer for the Kino group in the West. Despite this, after 4 years of marriage, the couple divorced.

In the fall of 1990, Yuri Kasparyan was baptized in the Transfiguration Cathedral. During the sacrament, he received a new name, becoming George. A friend was invited to the role of the godfather - the conceptual artist Sergei de Rocambol.

In 2004, freelance artist Natalya Nazarova (Turik) became the musician's wife.

There is no official information about Kasparyan's children, but some fan forums write that he has an adult daughter. How much this corresponds to the truth and who the girl's mother is is not known.
