Yunus-bek Evkurov

Yunus-Bek Yevkurov has been heading Ingushetia since 2008; in 2018, his third presidential term began. The future head of Ingushetia studied in Beslan, at a boarding school, after which he was called up for military service. During his service in the North Caucasus, his reconnaissance detachment found and rescued 12 soldiers and officers from Chechen captivity. In Yugoslavia, he was already in the rank of major in command of an operation aimed at taking control of the airport in Pristina. Yevkurov was ordered to secretly infiltrate the object, the distance to which was 600 km.

Under his leadership, a paratrooper detachment reached the airport and successfully captured it, and did it so quickly that the NATO group, which was at that moment in Kosovo, was amazed at the sudden appearance of the Russians. For that battle, Yevkurov in 2000 received the country's highest award - the title of Hero of Russia, after which the brave officer went on promotion and entered the Academy of the General Staff.

In October 2008, the political stage of the biography of Yunus-Bek Bamatgireevich begins. Dmitry Medvedev, who was then President of the Russian Federation, appreciated Yevkurov's personal qualities and considered him a suitable candidate for the post of acting head of Ingushetia (his predecessor Murat Zyazikov had recently resigned).

A year later, the President of Ingushetia convened a congress of the peoples of the republic to discuss the problems of local self-government and the necessary changes in the social and political system, and dismissed the government, saying that he was dissatisfied with its work.

In 2009, an attempt was made on Yunus-Bek Yevkurov. The intruders stuffed the car with explosives and sent it towards the motorcade. One of the guards died on the spot, the head of the republic and two other accompanying persons were seriously injured. The driver of the car later died in the hospital, and Yevkurov himself was sent by plane to Moscow with burns and a head injury.
