Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen is one of the world's greatest musicians. Raised on the works of Niccolo Paganini, Antonio Vivaldi and Johann Sebastian Bach, he laid the foundation for neoclassical metal and became the brightest representative of this genre. The biography of the virtuoso guitarist originates in Stockholm, the heart of Sweden, on June 30, 1963. At birth, he received the name Lars Johan Yngve Lannerback, and at the age of 12 he took his mother's surname - Malmsteen. Later, having moved to the United States, a native of Scandinavia simplified his name to a version of Yngwie Malmsteen, which is more harmonious and easy to pronounce.

The boy was brought up in a creative atmosphere. His mother sang in the choir, his father was a virtuoso master of the guitar and piano. Bjorn and Anna Louise, the musician's older brother and sister, played drums, violin, flute and piano from early childhood. And only the youngest member of the Lannerback family did not want to pick up instruments or test their vocal abilities.

For good deeds, it is customary to give toys to children, and Yngwie Malmsteen received a violin for his 4th birthday. He did not take the bow in his hands, he did not move the rosin along the strings. The instrument was gathering dust until a native of Scandinavia heard the attractive, enchanting music of Niccolo Paganini. For many years this virtuoso became the idol of the future performer.

A year later, the parents made another attempt to awaken the creative potential of their son and presented him with a guitar. The desire to master the instrument appeared only on September 18, 1970 - on the day of the death of the brilliant performer Jimi Hendrix.

The artist never took instrument lessons and did not go to a music school. He is self-taught.

The Swedish guitarist was barely 10 years old when the band Track on Earth appeared. It included Yngwie himself and his school friend who played the drums.

Then the paths of the lovers parted and converged by a fluke only 6 years later. On March 6, 1998, Yngwie became a father. He named his son after his idols - Antonio Yngwie Johann.

Malmsteen's 1984 debut solo album Rising Force was even nominated for a Grammy for Best Instrumental Disc. It was then that a new star blossomed.

Yngwie Malmsteen is one of the few foreign performers whose music was not censored in the USSR. After the release of the Trilogy album in 1986, the guitarist visited Leningrad for the first time. There the native of Sweden was introduced as the leader of the Raisin Force group.

One of the concerts in Leningrad formed the basis for the "live" album Trial by Fire (1989). It includes the new author's Black Star and Adagio Albinoni.

1987 was one of the most difficult years in the biography of the guitarist. He was involved in a terrible car accident, damaging the nerve in his right (working) hand. Coming out of a coma a week later, he learned that his mother had died of cancer. Previously, music helped to cope with problems, but Malmsteen could not even hold the strings of the guitar. It took 1.5 years to recover the hand.

In such agony, one of the best albums was born - Odyssey (1988), written with the support of Joe Lynn Turner, ex-member of Rainbow and Deep Purple.

In the 1990s, the performer began to lose popularity as the neoclassical metal he had born went out of fashion. Despite everything, he continued to make music. The artist only increased his fan base, retaining loyal fans and recruiting new ones from Generation Z.

Malmsteen's most recent disc, Blue Lightning (2019), became the 21st in his studio discography.

In the spring and summer of 2019, the performer presented the Blue Lightning album in the United States, and in February 2020, he tested Mexico. Probably, the guitarist planned to continue his musical journey around the world, but the coronavirus pandemic did not allow this.
