The grandson followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and became a musician. He works for the United States Coast Guard Academy Orchestra. The last years of Yan Abramovich's life were spent in a house on Chayanov Street. This is evidenced by a memorial plaque installed at the beginning of the two thousandth years.

In the late 1980s, doctors discovered cancer in Jan Frenkel. Treatment did not help the composer, the disease progressed rapidly. Due to poor health, the composer often ended up in the hospital.
