We just talked calmly, sensibly and maturely, and we understood each other like great people - no one should be confused about musical and film taste, or anything, and so on. It also turned out that really, as some of the commenters suggested, they didn't really mind the things I liked - just like any parent, they were worried that I wouldn't get too obsessed.
