Personal Story For a Reader
I want to make a confession. I'm a dependent.
This is something that has followed me almost all my life. Ever since infancy... I just feel uncomfortable... But I don't feel anything like that.
Maybe I should have been able to get help. But I'm not going to do it.
I'm just going to go back to the bookstore. In the library. Or to my infinite collection of e-books. I will return to my overcrowded shelves.
They know me well. They love me. This is all I need. Why do I have to keep it from him?
And why don't you start? When you read more, life changes. This is how it happens.
You will find a safe way to escape from failures, disappointments, stress and boredom, rather than reaching out to tablets or alcohol.
Save your money.
Buy a Library Subscription card or start downloading e-books from the huge open-access choice. Immerse yourself in history. Lose yourself in another world. Move to the head of a beloved character. That's fast. Economical. Mobile – your personal way of evacuation when the world gets unbearably heavy. And who would watch you from above just because you're reading a book? I'm not going to tell anyone what you're actually experiencing. Promise!
You will find that you have a family
Okay, I know. You have parents and, perhaps, brothers and sisters, and a whole host of aunts and uncles and grandparents.
Maybe not.
Maybe you feel lonely in this world. Dumped. Whether you are really such or just feeling alien in your own family – you can become a passionate reader and get new relatives. It's a universal, completely open and truly wonderful family. The family of readers. The Bookgolbans. Literary Junkies. Bibliophiles. Become one of us and you will find kindred spirits in every corner of the globe! Naturally, we have a secret family signal to identify.
Just get a book and start reading.
That's enough. We'il See you. We're going to recognize you. We'il be there for you whenever you need me. You will become part of a global conversation in which everyone participates simultaneously. Books are the way past to communicate with us. A means of communication between cultures, countries, social classes, societies. Books allow us to enter into other worlds and lives without imposing ourselves. Yes, that's shocking. Have you never wanted to be someone else, to experience something that you have not yet experienced in your life, or to find yourself to a distant and unfamiliar country? It's all in the books. You will learn to speak beautifully It is the most painless way to enrich your vocabulary, to improve your spelling and to broaden your grammatical competence.
Read more and you will be able to soar above those who make mistakes in your social media statuses. You will be able to correct them. You will become a grammar tyrant, which you always secretly dreamed of. You'il love the tails, the congestion, the waiting rooms. They will no longer make you nervous, they will not even impress you. Instead of eager to keep up with your feet, to breathe desperately, or to erupt angrily, you will simply read.
Reading gives us the chance to be happy anywhere, anytime, anywhere. It's a superpower that everyone needs. And with her help, you'il become a nicer person. It's possible that you don't care that much, but others won't mind. You may never have been a victim of racism, violence, or misery. You may not know the suffering of unrequited love. It may be easier for you to criticize than to sympathize. Reading will not completely change this but it will help you think before you condemn it.
And to sympathize without thinking. Because when you are experiencing other lives through the books, you start to see the lives of others in the world around you. A life you knew nothing about before. You will have a little more attention. A little more interest. Less "We are against them" and more "we are together". You will learn a lot Even if you read only fiction, you will learn enough about the cultural influences, the relationship, the history, the fear, the human psychology, the different manifestations of the spirit, the consequences of the war, how the robots can conquer the world, and also the tricks with which superheroes manage to keep their wages clean. All this is useful information. Want to know more? Read scientific and popular literature.
Biographies, history, books on current events. I'm joking, you can skip the books for the present. Instead, you read historical literature so you will learn more about modernity.
Philosophy. Psychology. Memoir. DIY Books.
If you are interested in something, you can find a book on the subject. Or a whole section of books. If you do not find it – it may be worth typing it. You will find that you were stupid In times when you were not yet dependent on reading, you were convinced that your judgments were sufficiently unintentional and objective, right?
Well, admit it. I'm not going to laugh.
You believed that you knew a lot, you have broad views about life and a very accurate idea of how the world is built. Then you started reading. It's possible the first books haven't changed anything at your place. Probably, they have safely stored the boundaries of your comfort zone. And then, one of your new family members has given you advice. "You have to read this,"-he said. -"It's magnificent! I really do! " That's what you did. And suddenly it enlightened you: what seemed to you so familiar, in which you were sure of 200%, is not really the case at all. And then you have wondered how your mind shakes and cracks appear in it that invaded light. Then you have seen the true state of your mind: foggy, dusty, crowded with huge amounts of assumptions. You have continued to read and the cracks have become more and more.
One after another, the assumptions started to evaporate. The light has become more and more air-cleaner. Then you started to settle the new expanse in your head with images, lectures, ideas, data. Poetry. Life fragments you've experienced through books. Emotions that didn't belonged you, but you felt as your own. Real-life stuff instead of rubbish from assumptions and expectations. At this point, you will find the creative beginning.
When you fill your mind with fresh material from the books, something great will begin to happen. Your mind will awaken. The essence of creativity is the ability to make relationships. All these people, from whose ingenuity we admire, deal precisely with this – to create a relationship. They possess something invaluable – an extensive database and are not alarmed by Trifles as the separate storage of information.
They allow poetry to penetrate science. They allow religion and history to enter into dialogue.
