Vyacheslav Shishkov was born in Bezhetsk on October 3, 1873 into a large wealthy family of a shopkeeper and a merchant. Grandfather Dmitry Alekseevich was a wealthy landowner who married a peasant serf who raised the writer's father.

At the age of 7, the future writer got a place in a boarding house, but a year later, due to financial difficulties, he left the cozy class. Having become an ordinary student of the Bezhetsk city school, he became interested in the life of the representatives of the masses.

The teachers drew attention to Shishkov's natural talent, the children's story "Wolf's Lair" was awarded the highest praise. However, at the insistence of his parents, Vyacheslav reoriented to construction and, having entered the Vyshnevolotsk educational institution, did not write a line.

The second wife of a native of Bezhetsk was the translator Ksenia Zhikhareva, she published a book of memoirs about a talented husband and existence with him. However, after the meeting of an attractive woman with the writer Mikhail Borisoglebsky, the romance of marriage dissipated.

In 1927, Vyacheslav Yakovlevich married again, the last marriage did not bring happiness to the former convinced bachelor. After another expedition, the man became indifferent to his beloved and in complete loneliness returned to the literary press.

Separate in the bibliography, formed after the revolution, were "Joke Stories" - "Khrenovinka" and "Performance in the Village". By creating biographies of the characters, the author demonstrated a talent for humor.

During the war years Vyacheslav Yakovlevich worked in besieged Leningrad, he wrote frontline essays for regularly published newspapers. A life full of fears and hardships affected physical health, but Shishkov continued to introduce important news to the educated world.

At the same time, the writer was making sketches for a historical novel, they were supposed to turn into the epic "Emelyan Pugachev". After the release of the first volume, literary connoisseurs were so impressed that they said thousands of flattering words.

Unfortunately, due to death for reasons not disclosed, the author did not manage to create a sequel to the book about the Russian rebel. In early March 1945, at the grave at the Novodevichy Cemetery, those with whom the writer had been in close contact gathered.

For the last novel, which remained unfinished, Shishkov was posthumously awarded an award; in memory of the Stalin Prize laureate, a museum was opened in the city of Bezhetsk. The name of Vyacheslav Yakovlevich was given to a street in Pushkin, as well as passenger ships on the Lena and Yenisei rivers. After the war, sculptures and busts of the writer appeared in settlements; in honor of him, a scholarship was established for students who showed literary talent.
