Vyacheslav Borisovich Petkun was born on June 26, 1969 in Leningrad in the family of native Petersburgers Maria Konstantinovna and Boris Ivanovich. The surname came from the Polish officer Kazimir Petkun, who was captured by Russia at the beginning of the 20th century and gave rise to a family of boyars and merchants in the northern capital of Russia. Vyacheslav is not the only child, he has a younger brother and sister, Alexander and Svetlana.

Petkun began his career as a musician in 1987 with the group "Corpus 2", now defunct. From November 1988 to April 1992, he played in the second line-up of Secret Vote, a St. Petersburg band performing in the style of folk rock, blues rock and reggae.

Vyacheslav helped "Secret Vote" to become more famous: in the spring of 1989 the group went on tour, in November they recorded the first and only album "Who is there?" The rock band appeared at a number of festivals - "New Music", "Ark of the XXI Century", performed at the 10th anniversary of the Leningrad rock club, and at the end of 1991 it was under the threat of collapse, finally ceasing to exist in the spring of 1992.

After the failure with the Secret Vote, Vyacheslav Petkun wondered if he really wanted to become a singer and become famous. In his youth, impulsive decisions are made, but the St. Petersburg resident adhered to the musical vector thanks to his own project - "Dances". The band first took to the stage on June 10, 1992, playing at the closing of the Summer School.

Subsequently, Petkun was engaged in anything, but not music, mainly business. Only 2 years later, on May 8, 1994, the collective, renamed "Dances Minus", again gave a concert at the festival "On the Eve of Victory". From that moment on, the biography of Vyacheslav Petkun is inseparable from the history of the Dances Minus group.

In 1995, the young man, together with his friend, bassist of the band Oleg Polevshchikov, moved to Moscow. With Igor Shcherbakov on guitar, Klim Shlenev on keyboards and Andrey Veprov on drums, "Dances Minus" began to conquer the capital's audience.

In 1997, the debut studio album "Dances Minus" - "10 drops" was released. The collection presented the audience with the song "Polovinka", dearly beloved today.
