Sharov Vladimir Alexandrovich was born on April 7, 1952 in the capital of the Soviet Union. He grew up in an intelligent family that upholds Jewish traditions. The boy's father, named Alexander, was a well-known journalist and children's writer, so his attraction to literature was inherited by Vladimir. Mother Anna Livanova worked as a physicist.

The Russian Booker 2014 laureate is the writer Vladimir Sharov with his novel Return to Egypt.

The first educational institution where the boy entered was the capital's Physics and Mathematics School No. 2. According to his compatriots, he was almost expelled from there because of problems with academic performance. However, subsequently, the future author managed to improve his knowledge so much that he graduated from school with a gold medal.

In 1969, Vladimir became a student at the Plekhanov Institute, but just a month after starting his studies, he signed documents on academic leave in order to write and publish a collection of fairy tales. After a year, Sharov tried to return to the university, but he was expelled from it due to his involvement in organizing a strike on a student trip to a collective farm.

After carefully considering this proposal, the young man nevertheless moved to Voronezh for a while in 1972. When the time came for passing the exams, he visited the memoirist Natalia Shtempel. Due to the fact that Sharov was not a Komsomol member, he was not admitted to the full-time department, so he had to enroll in correspondence.

After completing his studies at a higher educational institution in 1977 with honors, Sharov managed to work as a literary secretary and a loader, as well as to defend his Ph.D. thesis several years later.

The writer's debut literary work was published in 1979 on the pages of the Soviet magazine "New World". And his first full-fledged novel, entitled "Trace in Trail: A Chronicle of the Same Kind in Thoughts, Commentaries, and Key Dates," was published only in 1991. He also first appeared in a magazine, this time titled Ural.

Later, other works from his bibliography were published, such as The Resurrection of Lazarus, Be Like Children, The Old Girl. In 1993, readers were able to get acquainted with the novel "Before and During", which caused a huge scandal among literary critics.

The members of the editorial board of the Novy Mir publication strongly disagreed with the interpretation of important historical events in the author's work. Critics said that the thoughts raised in Before and During were too unexpected and bold.

In an interview, Vladimir Aleksandrovich claimed that he never believed that he would one day become a successful writer. At a young age, he gave more preference to oral speech.
