By the age of 42, he managed to stand at the head of the army, while skipping the intermediate stages that usually precede such a high position.

By that time, the officer graduated from the MV Frunze Military Academy. In the early 1990s, he took part in operations on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and remained in the Caucasus, which became a continuous hot spot at that time. Since 1995, he commanded military groups during the hostilities in Chechnya, during which he was wounded. Shamanov's methods were often regarded as extremely harsh, as a result of which he fell into the focus of attention of the Strasbourg court.

At the same time, the talent of the commander was also recognized, who led special operations, during which invasions were repelled, bandit formations were disarmed and destroyed, and dangerous areas were stormed. During the Second Chechen campaign, the general was made responsible for eliminating Shamil Basayev's detachments.

In 2000, Vladimir decided to start a civilian career and ran for the post of governor of the Ulyanovsk region. The man held this position until 2004, when he took the position of assistant to the chairman of the government of the Russian Federation. Shamanov left military service in 2016, reaching the position of the commander of the airborne troops. From that moment on, he joined the ranks of Russian politicians, becoming a State Duma deputy.

Vladimir Anatolyevich is happy in his personal life and admits that the house is the territory where the wife commands. Here he resigns from his leadership powers and rests in soul. When free time is given, the man takes care of his grandchildren, goes hunting, visits friends and attends cultural events.
