Perhaps, there is no person in our country who would not smile at the name “Vladimir Shainsky”, would not remember about Gena and Cheburashka, about Clouds, about the composer himself, jumping around the stage with a merry ball. Yes, he was like that - cheerful, active, groovy, unrestrainedly hooligan and playful. He said to himself that he was happy, but he did not know the date of death. But how did Shainsky stay that way, having lived 92 years?

A native of Kiev, was born on December 12, 1925, from the age of 9 he learned to play the violin in the palace of pioneers, and a year later he ended up in the 4th grade in a special school at the Kiev Conservatory, although his parents were far from music: his father was a chemist, his mother was a biologist ...

During the Great Patriotic War, the family was evacuated to Tashkent. Vladimir Yakovlevich continued his studies at the Tashkent Conservatory, and in 1943 he left for the Red Army, served in Central Asia, in the communications regiment. In the same place he composed the first song, to the verses of his friend - about military communications.

1945 - Moscow Conservatory, orchestral faculty, then for three years he worked with Utesov in his orchestra, later taught violin at a music school. And he did not stop composing music, therefore it was logical that he entered the composition department at the Baku Conservatory in 1962. After graduating, he returned to Moscow. Here his composer's biography steeply rushed upward: he wrote more than 400 songs for famous performers, and the significance of the song for children can hardly be overestimated. For more than 40 years Shainsky has been and remains as important for all the kids in our country as Barto, Marshak, Chukovsky.

Since 2000, Vladimir Shainsky's life began in several states: he lived in Israel, received the citizenship of the country, moved to the south of the United States, to the city of San Diego, had a residence permit, and often came to Russia and spoke about Ukraine with nostalgia.

Several years ago, oncology manifested itself, but this did not at all prevent Shainsky from remaining a cheerful and sociable person, as throughout his entire musical life.

While still studying at the conservatory, in 1963, Vladimir Yakovlevich Shainsky wrote his first string quartet, and two years later - a symphony. He always loved the work of P.I. Tchaikovsky and tried to guess the secret of his music, he himself wanted success in the field of the classics.

Vladimir Shainsky has repeatedly said that he considers himself a part of Jewish culture, and his music was born from the motives of klezmer - Jewish folk melody. There were also songs written to be performed in Yiddish. Although in the serious classical works of the composer, the tradition of the European school is felt. But the key is the surging love of life, a passion for mischief, love for preschool children and an irrepressible temperament overpowered all his efforts to be serious.

Once, having come to the Melodiya recording studio, to the department of symphonic music, Shainsky demanded the director of the studio so actively that the frightened head of the department complained about him to Yuri Entin, then the head of the children's editorial office. He went to get acquainted with such a strange composer. It was a historic meeting. Shainsky claimed the role of a classical composer and immediately, within 5 minutes, sang a funny song to Entina on his poems about the boy Antoshka. 

With her they went to the Soyuzmultfilm studio, where they were making the well-known cartoons magazine Karusel. Yes, and the cover for the magazine was also invented by Shainsky! This is how his first children's songs appeared and his growth as a composer began. Later, starting in the 1970s, the opera "Three against Marabuk", the musicals "Az, Buki, Vedi", "Nils's Journey" and other great musical works were written for children.

But Shainsky would not have been Shainsky if he had stopped at one thing. He, like his Grasshopper, was in a hurry to live and enjoy life in music, making the life of little listeners noticeably happier. Vladimir Yakovlevich wrote music for cartoons: "Cheburashka", "Shapoklyak", "Katerok", "Little Raccoon", "Tryam! Hello!" and many others. We still remember the melodies for the cinema: "Aniskin and Fantomas", "Breakfast on the Grass", "School Waltz", "Finist - a clear falcon".

Shainsky's temperament made him live at full power: listen to his inner voice, write songs for children and adults, perform at concerts, play, albeit episodic, but still roles ("DMB" for example). Even photos of the musician reflect his cheerfulness, and videos from concerts demonstrate his passion for his work.

Shainsky was a member of the Union of Composers of the USSR, the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR and many other organizations, including the United Russia party.

Vladimir Shainsky was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree, the Order of Honor, the Order of Friendship, and the badge For Services to Polish Culture (Poland, 1974). He received the USSR State Prize, the Lenin Komsomol Prize, the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR, Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR and many others.

In his youth, Shainsky tried to become a successful composer. But he was completely unfit for life in everyday life or in the family, remaining a big child. He could work more than one concert a day, but he did not know how to hammer nails or cook himself dinner. He got along well with boys and girls of all ages, and his children showed up late. If an instrument suddenly appeared next to him, then after a couple of minutes the noisy company turned into a friendly chorus, guessing the composer's song from the very first notes, and he himself had the most fun at the same time.

He married very late, at 46 years old, and to a very young girl Natalia, 25 years younger than himself. The son Joseph (born 1987) appeared. Unfortunately, the family did not work out, but the son tries to keep in touch with his father. Now his children are already growing up - the granddaughter of the composer Alice and the grandson, who was born in 2015. Iosif Vladimirovich graduated from the Institute of Radio Electronics, lives in Israel and is rather far from music.

When his personal life took another sharp turn, and the musician married again, at 58 years old, all relatives were amazed - his wife Svetlana was 41 years younger! And here the family did not predict a long life, but it turned out quite the opposite: more than 30 years of marriage, two children. 

Shainsky's second son, Vyacheslav (born in 1987), studied at the Institute of Contemporary Art, became a sound engineer, now lives in Moscow, teaches courses in music theory and its creation at the DJ Grove's audio school, but he never became a composer. Daughter - Anna (born in 1991) - went to America with her parents, graduated first from college, then from the University of California, got a profession related to computers. Probably, being a composer, and even the one loved by children - the most sensitive listeners - is a gift that not every person receives.

The young wife turned out to be not only wise and faithful, but also an excellent assistant to her husband - she became his translator (Shainsky did not want to learn another language in a childish way), his director, solving all the problems, and they arose more than once; his nutritionist and nurse during the difficult times of operations and rehabilitation, when he almost died, but managed to get out of the clutches of a serious illness. 

In recent years, Vladimir Shainsky and his wife more often lived in their house in San Diego, came to Moscow, willingly responded to invitations around the country, meetings with young admirers of his music, and they always played, even on a frustrated instrument, charging the audience with their energy.

When health allowed, Vladimir Shainsky went skiing, ice skating, cycling, swam a lot, even in an ice hole, always liked to have fun in a friendly company, and it doesn't matter if it was adults or children. And to himself he spoke as only a very cheerful and wise person would say: 

Vladimir Shainsky died on December 26, 2017 in the United States at the 93rd year of life. A couple of years ago, doctors gave him a disappointing diagnosis - stomach cancer. However, an operation performed in 2015 by American oncologists allowed Vladimir Yakovlevich's life to be slightly extended.
