However, Gusev never became a philologist. A classmate once invited Vladimir to a rehearsal of a play at the theater. On that day, a dormant desire to play on stage woke up and never for a moment left the future artist. Very soon, Vladimir Evgenievich Gusev left the walls of the former university and went to Moscow, where he decided to enter one of the theater institutes.

He submitted documents to three universities at once: Shchepkinskoye and Shchukinskoye theater schools and GITIS. But priority was given to young applicants, and Vladimir was already 22 years old. As he said, they recruited guys who looked like a "blank sheet", and on it there was already a lot of "written". Gusev did not go to any of the capital's institutes, but fate itself suggested a way out: in his native Yaroslavl, a theatrical theater had just opened. Vladimir Evgenievich was among the students of the first enrollment, in 1984 he received the coveted diploma.

While studying at the Yaroslavl theater university, Vladimir Gusev met the director Vladimir Vorontsov. This acquaintance turned out to be long and fruitful. The newly-minted actor, although he received an invitation to join the troupe of the local Youth Theater, chose to work with Vorontsov, who at that time headed the Alexei Tolstoy Drama Theater in Bryansk.

Here for 6 years Vladimir Evgenievich played in performances and gained invaluable experience. But the "dashing 1990s" came, the time of perestroika. For more than a decade, until the beginning of the next century, theatrical life came to a standstill.

The man changed several scenes, again returned to Yaroslavl, where he first served in the academic theater, and then moved to the Youth Theater. In the very finale of the 1990s, Gusev left the stage of the capital's theater without regret and returned to Yaroslavl, where he again got a job at the Youth Theater. As he claims, in Moscow he was sorely lacking creativity. Fortunately, just at that time, Gusev's friend, actor Yuri Vaksman, left the theater and began to develop his own restaurant business.

When he opened a cafe in Yaroslavl called "Actor", he invited Vladimir Gusev to stage a play. The choice fell on the play "Interview", written by the American playwright Peter Suet. The production was directed by Vladimir Vorontsov.

This idea, realized in 1999 by two artists - Gusev and Waxman, unexpectedly turned out to be very successful. In the absence of a stage, the performance went right in the cafe hall.
