Biography
Viktor Fedorovich Yanukovych is a political and statesman of Ukraine, prime minister of Ukraine during the presidential terms of Viktor Yushchenko and Leonid Kuchma, the fourth president of Ukraine. Victor was born on July 9, 1950 in the village of Zhukovka, Yenakievsky district, Donetsk (Stalin) region, in the family of a steam locomotive driver Fyodor Vladimirovich Yanukovich and a nurse Olga Semyonovna Leonova. Pointing out the pedigree, Viktor Yanukovych subsequently mentioned Polish-Lithuanian roots on his paternal side.
Both of the boy's parents were not local: his father moved from the Vitebsk region, and his mother was the daughter of a dispossessed peasant from the Oryol (Kursk) volost. In 1952, Olga Semyonovna died suddenly, and grandmother Kastusya Ivanovna Yanukovych, who survived deportation to Germany during the Great Patriotic War, took up raising the boy.
Yanukovych spent his childhood in the city of Yenakiyevo, studied at school number 34. At the age of 17, he was convicted in the case of robbery as part of an organized group for a term of three years. After six months in the Kremenchug colony, Viktor was released for exemplary behavior. At the age of 19 he entered the Yenakiyevo Metallurgical Plant as a gas worker. A year later he was put on trial again in connection with a fight. Viktor Yanukovych later wrote about the mistakes of his youth in a short biography that was required of him before his first appointment as prime minister. In 1978, both convictions were cleared by the regional court of the Donetsk region.
In the 70s, Yanukovych quickly began to grow up the career ladder. Victor changed his profession as a car mechanic, mechanic, graduated from the local mining college. Until 1980 he was a member of the Komsomol. For 20 years he held the position of the General Director of PO Donbassstransremont, PO Uglepromtrans, and then the regional enterprise Donetskavtotrans. In the mid-70s he entered the DPI at the correspondence department. Until 1991, he was in the ranks of the CPSU.

Policy
In 1996, Yanukovych began his political career: first as deputy chairman, and then as chairman of the Donetsk regional administration. He held the post of politician until 2002. In 2000 Yanukovych became head of the department of innovative management at DonGUU, received the title of professor and doctor of economic sciences. In 2001, the governor graduated from the Ukrainian Academy of Foreign Trade as a specialist in international law.
In 2001, on behalf of the incumbent President Leonid Kuchma, he pays a political visit to Moscow, in 2002 he was elected to the post of prime minister, bypassing candidates Sergei Tigipko, Georgy Kirpa and Oleg Dubina. Since 2003, he has been the head of the Party of Regions, from which a year later he is nominated as a presidential candidate. Having won the second round of elections with a 2.6% advantage over Viktor Yushchenko, he was accused of falsifying data.
As a result of the public unrest, which was called the "Orange Revolution", re-elections were held. The votes were cast in Yushchenko's favor, and Yanukovych had to step down as prime minister. In 2006 he was elected a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions and became the chairman of the faction. Six months later, he again takes up the post of prime minister, where he worked until the end of 2007, after which he moves to the Verkhovna Rada.
fact
President of Ukraine
In 2010, he ran for president for the second time. This time, Viktor Yushchenko, Yulia Tymoshenko, Serhiy Tigipko, Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Petro Symonenko became Yanukovych's rivals. Viktor Fedorovich entered the second round together with Tymoshenko, which he bypassed, gaining 48.95% of the vote. On February 25, he officially took office as the President of Ukraine, as well as the head of the National Security and Defense Council and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Mykola Azarov was appointed head of the Party of Regions.
During his reign, Viktor Yanukovych reduced the presidential administration by 20%, created an anti-corruption committee, disbanded 70% of the ministerial apparatus, carried out a number of reforms, defended the rights to the Russian language within the framework of the European Charter for Regional Languages, simplified documentary support for road transport and abolished military service.
In the first year of Yanukovych’s rule, prices and tariffs for goods and services for citizens began to rise rapidly, while the number of billionaires increased. The Prosecutor General's Office opened cases against former President Leonid Kuchma, opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, Minister of Economy Bohdan Danylyshyn, and acting Minister of Defense Valery Ivaschenko and others.
In foreign policy, Yanukovych declared an alliance with Russia and Belarus as a priority for Ukraine, while he called integration into the European Union a strategic goal, but categorically refused to cooperate with NATO. He recognized the Holodomor as a common tragedy for all peoples of the former USSR. In 2013, Viktor Fedorovich refused to sign an agreement with the European Union, thereby provoking a political crisis in the country.
Many political observers in Ukraine suspected that Yanukovych had consulted with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin before the crucial moment. But there is no evidence to this effect. In November, a confrontation called Euromaidan began, which resulted in a radical anti-government movement.
fact
Coup in Ukraine
On February 21, 2014, bloody clashes began on Maidan Nezalezhnosti, as a result of which more than a hundred people died. On February 22, a coup d'etat began in Kiev. Yanukovych was forcibly removed from his duties as president, and Alexander Turchinov temporarily took over as head of state. The government has prepared documents for impeachment and restoration of the 2004 Constitution.
But already on the night of February 23, Viktor Yanukovych, together with loved ones, made a secret flight to Kharkov, and from there to Crimea, asking Russia for political asylum. Once in Rostov-on-Don, Viktor Yanukovych held a press conference at which he announced that he did not intend to resign, and considers all the actions of the opposition to be an illegal seizure of power. But the Verkhovna Rada immediately adopted a provision on Yanukovych's unconstitutional self-removal from the presidency.
fact
Personal life
In 1969, at the Yenakievsky Metallurgical Plant, Viktor Yanukovych met Lyudmila Alexandrovna Nastenko, born in 1949, who worked as an engineer in a design bureau. In 1971, the wedding took place, and two years later the first-born Alexander was born in the family. In 1981, his wife gave Yanukovych a second son, Viktor.
Both brothers received higher education: the elder graduated from the Medical Institute and the University of Economics, the younger defended his thesis on the social policy of the state. Later, Alexander went into the construction business. He has two sons: Victor and Alexander.
Viktor Yanukovych Jr since 2006 served as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada. He was married to Olga Stanislavovna Korochanskaya, who gave him a son, Ilya (born in 2010). On March 22, 2015, while crossing the ice on Lake Baikal, Yanukovych's son died. The car with Victor went under water, the young man, being at the wheel, did not have time to unfasten the seat belts in time and drowned.
On March 23, information appeared in the press about the death of Yanukovych Sr., but later the rumors were not confirmed. On that day, the former president of Ukraine suffered a heart attack and spent several days in intensive care. The funeral of Viktor Yanukovych Jr. took place in Sevastopol at the memorial cemetery of the heroes of the Crimean War of 1853-1856.
Since 2010, Viktor Fedorovich and Lyudmila Aleksandrovna have been living separately from each other. The spouse remained in the Donetsk region, and the president settled in a residence in Mezhyhirya, where he began every morning with jogging on stumps and swimming, which allowed him to maintain good physical shape at the age of 60 (with a height of 192 cm, Yanukovych's weight was 85 kg).
According to rumors, even then the president of Ukraine began relations with compatriot Lyubov Polezhai (Sadykova), who came to work as a cook at the presidential residence in 2003. After three years of work, Lyubov parted ways with her husband Yegor, while leaving a common daughter, Maria. In 2010, Polezhay opened a Crystal Spa beauty salon in Kiev on Obolonskaya embankment and was appointed head of the Road of the Future charitable foundation, which ceased to exist in 2014.
In 2014, Yanukovych, together with his sons and a partner, moved to Russia, and Lyudmila Aleksandrovna settled in Crimea. The official press service of Viktor Fyodorovich denies Yanukovych's connection with Lyubov Polezhay. The former president himself prefers to keep his personal life secret from the press.
