After Euromaidan, Medvedchuk turned his back on the ruling elite and took a position in opposition. In 2018, he joined the For Life Party and announced his own views on the main problems of Ukrainian politics. Because of this, he came to the attention of the Prosecutor General's Office and became a defendant in the case of separatism and high treason.

Victor Vladimirovich Medvedchuk was born on August 7, 1954 in a small village of Abanskiy district of Krasnoyarsk region. His parents, natives of Zhytomyr and Vinnitsa, ended up in the north of Russia because of the war crimes of his father, who since 1942 headed a unit of a youth nationalist organization. When the Germans retreated, Vladimir Medvedchuk was arrested and sentenced to 8 years in prison and exile to Siberia.

Naturally, the young criminal was expelled from the university and reinstated only when the bar association achieved an acquittal. This case, aggravated by the military deeds of his father, strongly affected the subsequent biography of Victor. The past prevented him from submitting documents to the Higher School of Police, and the young man had to work in his specialty in the Kiev Bar.

In his youth, Medvechuk acted as a defender in the trials of the repressed dissident poets Yuri Litvin and Vasily Stus. Obeying the superior authorities, the novice lawyer lost both cases, and the defendants spent the rest of their lives in prison.

In the late 1980s - early 1990s, his professional career took off, and Medvedchuk headed a large team of legal advice in one of the central districts of Kiev, and then took over as chairman of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine.

During this period, the republic became an independent state, and Victor became interested in politics. He joined an informal organization positioned as a financial and industrial group, and got into the close circle of Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma.

Having become acquainted with the mechanisms of management, Medvedchuk became the founder and head of the law firm "B.I.EM" and took up posts in the management of the capital FC "Dynamo" and one of the private financial and credit institutions of Ukraine.

Moving on, Medvedchuk got a job under the national Cabinet of Ministers and took over the leadership of the Higher Bar Qualification Commission. In the elections to the Verkhovna Rada, Viktor won an additional round and became a member of parliament, fully loyal to President Kuchma and heading the administration in 2002.

Rumor has it that the Ukrainian lawyer helped the next leader, Viktor Yanukovych, to come to power and made a fortune that reached $ 460 million by falsifying the final data. But this was not enough, and Medvedchuk announced his intention to run his own candidacy in the presidential elections in 2009.

This did not happen due to the lack of support from fellow party members and the shaken political reputation. Instead of the presidency, Medvedchuk headed the public movement "Ukrainian Choice is the Right of the People", which spoke out against the Europeanization of Ukraine and for its entry into the EAEU customs union.

During the national events of 2013–2014, Medvedchuk took a wait-and-see attitude and only occasionally kept in touch with President Yanukovych by telephone. When the press learned about this, the leader and close associate began to be suspected of conducting secret negotiations with Russia aimed at resolving the situation in the country.

Despite the fact that this information was not officially confirmed, the United States imposed sanctions on the lawyer and tried to interfere with his mediation activities in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

However, this did not work, and Medvedchuk was able to achieve results in work aimed at resolving the armed conflict in the territory of Donbass and the LPR. Unfortunately, the politician failed to establish peace in the self-proclaimed republics, but the process of exchange of prisoners got off the ground.

This turn of events did not suit the Ukrainian authorities, and in the mid-2010s, the special services began to weave a web around the politician, who had repeatedly made uncoordinated flights to Moscow. He was suspected of supporting the rebellious regions and the business associated with a monopoly on the purchase of Russian gas.

Mistrust intensified after Medvedchuk became a member of the For Life party in 2018, which was planning to unite with the Opposition Bloc to run in the October 2019 parliamentary elections. The Ukrainian special services decided that the influence of Russia is clearly visible behind this alliance and that it is being created in order to put pressure on the new president and prevent European countries from joining the society.

Thus, the personality of a lawyer and a politician attracted hundreds of public and state figures who began a fierce search for compromising evidence against their former comrade-in-arms and colleagues. Medvedchuk was not afraid of persecution and in the 2019 presidential elections supported the candidacy of the opposition leader Yury Boyko. In addition, Viktor Vladimirovich gave interviews to popular print media and constantly participated in talk shows on television channels in Russia and Ukraine.

So, in the political program Right to Know! Which aired in October 2018, Medvedchuk described the main problems of Ukraine's policy and noted that the primary task of the head of state should be a peaceful end to the conflict in Donbass. At the same time, the leader of the Ukrainian Choice movement recognized the power of Russia on the territory of the Crimean peninsula and sharply condemned the actions of the parliament against the Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.

It so happened that the personal life of popular politicians is under the scrutiny of the public and journalists. Medvedchuk was no exception, and since 1999 the press has periodically published information about his relationship with the host and entrepreneur Oksana Marchenko.

The couple met at the Ukrainian Man of the Year award ceremony and soon realized that they were destined to be together. Having terminated official relations with previous partners, Oksana and Victor got married in the ancient Foros church in Crimea.

The ceremony, led by Metropolitan Vladimir, was attended by prominent representatives of the Orthodox Church, as well as the closest colleagues and friends of the bride and groom: Leonid Kuchma, Viktor Yanukovych, Sergei Tigipko and others. A year later, the newlyweds had a daughter, Daria, and the journalists immediately published materials that after baptism in the St. Petersburg Kazan Cathedral, Medvedchuk became the godfather of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the wife of the Prime Minister, Svetlana Medvedeva, was chosen as the godmother.
