Composition
At different times, the future stars of the Russian stage Alla Pugacheva, Alexander Gradsky, Vyacheslav Malezhik, Alexander Barykin, Alexey Glyzin and Alexander Buinov began their creative biography as part of the group. "Merry Fellows" gave the soloists an excellent start, revealing their names to millions of fans of light dance music.
The history of VIA goes back to the 1960s of the twentieth century. Over the years since its foundation, the musical genres of the songs performed by the ensemble have changed, the vocalists have left for free creative swimming, and others, no less bright and talented, have come to replace them.
The ensemble is called the year of birth of 1966, and the place is the site of the Mosconcert. At the beginning of the journey, the creator of the cult group, 22-year-old pianist Pavel Slobodkin, did not even think that his creation would become a laureate of the All-Union competition after 2 years.
The name VIA Slobodkin chose unmistakably: the "golden" comedy of the 1930s, shot by Grigory Alexandrov, with the magnificent music of Isaac Dunaevsky and Lyubov Orlova in the lead role, was loved and remembered. Having named the ensemble, the founder emphasized the continuity of generations and gave the name to the “ship”, which “swam” at a seven-league pace to success.
Pavel Slobodkin invited musicians and singers of pop and jazz groups to the first line-up, and the repertoire of the founder's relative - Yuliy Slobodkin - before the "Merry Boys" was Russian folklore.
The first soloist of the collective - Nina Brodskaya - worked in the collective for a year and went to the Tula Philharmonic. Riga saxophonist Yuri Peterson, who performed with "Merry Fellows" until 1972, sang the first hits. But the "Gems" helped Peterson really open up and become famous, where he moved.
In the fall of 1968, the participation of "Merry Fellows" in the first All-Union competition of youth songs brought victory: the collective, the first in the Union among the VIAs, became a laureate.
In the early 1970s, the ideological machine slowed down, Slobodkin had freedom in choosing a repertoire and manner of performance. The composition of the group has also changed. Brodskaya was replaced by the Leningrad soloist Svetlana Ryazanova, whom fans remembered thanks to David Tukhmanov's song "White Dance". After winning the 1972 Golden Orpheus in Bulgaria, Ryazanova left the guys.
The destruction of the ideological framework allowed the "father" of the "Jolly Fellows" to turn his gaze to the West and its largest star, the Beatles. Pavel lured vocalist Leonid Berger out of Orpheus, who resembled Ray Charles in his manner of performance. Soon Berger was named the pioneer of Russian rock. Guitarist Valentin Vitebsky also followed the soloist from Orpheus.
To organize concerts and tours of the "Merry Boys" across the country, Slobodkin found an experienced administrator Mikhail Plotkin, who had previously worked with Emil Horovets. For 3 years, Plotkin has made a significant contribution to the promotion of VIA.
In 1970, a new soloist joined the "Merry Boys" - Alexander Gradsky, who had previously worked in the VIA "Skomorokhi". Three months later, Gradskiy returned to "Skomorokha", and was replaced by Vladimir Fazylov, who will be remembered for his performance of the hit "Portrait by Pablo Picasso". The virtuoso guitarist Valery Khabazin moved from the amateur group "Mosaic" to VIA.
In the same 1970, the debut album "Merry Children" was released, which included the hit "Aleshkina Love". In 1971, guitarist Alexei Puzyrev joined the ensemble, leaving "Gems". For the band, he - an inveterate Beatle fan - turned out to be an important link, because from that moment on, the arrangements performed by him gave the songs of "Merry Fellows" the gloss of the legendary group.
In 1971, VIA first visited abroad, in Czechoslovakia, where he recorded the song "You are not more beautiful." The next year was a year of turmoil: Berger, Fazylov and Peterson left. "Merry Guys" were on the verge of disintegration, but thanks to Slobodkin and his ability to keep a finger on the pulse they survived. Alexander Lerman came from Skomorokhs, who became the main soloist for 2 years.
In 1975, "Jolly Fellows", thanks to a gigantic 15 million circulation of the first disc, received a prize from the BBC Corporation. The award was presented to the founder of the collective by the British Ambassador in the presence of Ekaterina Furtseva.
In the 1970s, the group enriched itself with vocalists Vyacheslav Malezhik, Alexander Barykin and Anatoly Aleshin. Keyboard musician Alexander Buinov joined the "guys" from "Araks", and soon the perky hit "Grandmothers of the old woman" appeared. Slobodkin gathered the aces of the Soviet stage to start recording the giant disc.
In 1974, a giant was released, "Love is a Huge Country", which was named by the fans of the "Merry Fellows" the best album of the ensemble for all the years of its activity. In November 1974, Alla Pugacheva joined the team. The new vocalist worked in VIA for 2 years, but in September 1976 she left for free swimming. The following year, Lyudmila Barykina becomes a soloist.
In 1979, a disc was released with Oskar Feltsman's songs to the verses of Andrei Voznesensky, and by the next Olympic year, "Merry Fellows" recorded a disc "Musical Globe" with hits from Western pop music. Alexei Glyzin appears in the group - the guitarist who previously accompanied Pugacheva.
In the early 1980s, "Merry Guys" were called not by VIA, but neutrally - by the ensemble, and the composition was being reduced. The musical pieces are included in the Banana Islands album, which returns the band to its former glory. In the mid-1980s, the ensemble won the main prize of the "Bratislava Lira", performing the composition "Wandering Artists".
At the end of 1987, on the night before the New Year, the band presented a new song "Don't worry, aunt", which became a hit with lightning speed and was included in the album "Just a minute."
In 1988, Glyzin left the "Merry Boys", and a year later Buinov left the ensemble. The group stops concerts and tours. The new composition of young artists did not bring a fresh stream into creativity. In 1991, fans of the cult ensemble received the album “25 Years. Best Songs ”, which“ Merry Boys ”drew a line under the glorious past.

Music
Creativity "Merry Children" marked the birth of a new musical direction in the Soviet Union - vocal and instrumental ensembles. The first repertoire consisted of folk and patriotic songs, but they were replaced by foreign melodies.
Due to the resistance of Russian composers to the growing popularity of rock, new composers David Tukhmanov, Roman Mayorov, Oleg Ivanov appeared.
Today, not a single "Disco 80s" is complete without a potpourri of "golden" hits of the ensemble, beloved by millions, whose songs are remembered by the older and middle generations of music lovers, whose youth fell in the 1970s and 80s.
fact
"Funny guys" now
To the delight of old fans, the ensemble still goes on stage today. On the official website of the musicians, fans read news about the followers of idols.
From 2005 to the present time, musicians Ilya Zmeenkov and Andrei Kontsur have been working in the "Veselyiye guys". In 2007, vocalist and trumpet player Mikhail Reshetnikov came, and in 2009 vocalist and guitarist Alexander Cherevkov and Ivan Pashkov joined the band.
In August 2017, the "Merry Boys" suffered an irreparable loss: the founder of the ensemble, Pavel Slobodkin, passed away.
