Vakhtang was born in Tbilisi into a family that came from ancient Georgian noble families. For the first time a young man approached the microphone in the last grade of school. He got to a rehearsal of his friend's amateur ensemble and was so imbued with what was happening that he quickly learned to play percussion instruments, and later began to sing.

After school, Kikabidze studied at Tbilisi University for two years, then completed two courses at the Tbilisi Institute of Foreign Languages. But he left both universities because of a burning desire to perform on stage.

In 1959, Vakhtang Kikabidze got a job at the Tbilisi Philharmonic and began touring with a collective of pop artists. The task of the young singer was to perform compositions in Georgian, Russian, Italian and English and copy the manner of Soviet and foreign stars. I must say that Kikabidze turned out such a musical parody excellently, but then he wanted not to repeat, but to create his own.

He organized the "Dielo" quartet, but soon moved to the "Orera" collective, whose name translates into Russian roughly as "La-la-la". There the artist, as in the school orchestra, sang and played the drums, and often at the same time. According to Kikabidze, "Orera" was the first vocal and instrumental ensemble in the Soviet Union.

Together with this, VIA Vakhtang toured the country a lot, recorded a number of popular hits, such as "Song of Tbilisi", "Juanita", "Love is Beautiful", "Native Land". In total, the collective managed to release 8 records with the participation of Kikabizde, after which he began solo activities.

Among the singer's first independent hits are the songs "The Last Carrier", "Mzeo Mariam" and "Chito Gvrito", which was included in the soundtrack of the film "Mimino". The first full-length album was released in 1979 and was called "While the heart sings." Then came the record "Wish", on which Kikabidze sang songs of his friend, composer Alexey Hekimyan. In the 80s, interest in the work of Kikabidze was so great that, in addition to the regular appearance of photos of the artist on the covers of film magazines, his name became part of the name of the Ural punk rock group.
