In 2007, when young people around the world wore long black and pink bangs and dark clothes, Tokio Hotel became trendsetters in emo fashion, and lead singer Bill Kaulitz, who eyeliner with black pencil, became an idol for millions of girls and guys. Half of the musical group, twin brothers Bill and Tom Kaulitz, were born on September 1, 1989 in Leipzig. When the boys were 7 years old, their parents, Simone and Joerg, divorced, and two years later, their mother remarried the musician Gordon Trumper. In early interviews, the brothers gave him the laurels of their success: traveling along the Elbe, Gordon taught the boys to play the guitar and developed their vocal abilities.

Bill was better at singing, and he sang to the accompaniment of Tom for his mother and stepfather. Already at the age of 9, he wrote the first song and dedicated it to his pet mice, who died. The composition was called "Schwarz" ("Black").

The boys rehearsed in the garage, gave acoustic concerts for neighbors. It was then that Georg Listing and Gustav Schaefer heard them. 13-year-old Gustav knew a little bit about the bass guitar, and 14-year-old Georg - the drums. Combining their creative efforts, the Germans founded the Devillish group in 2001.

As children, they gathered entire clubs in Magdeburg and even released an album of the same name. With their own efforts, the boys recorded 300 discs and sold them at concerts.

Bill Kaulitz, to draw attention to the group, took part in the children's show "Star Search" and reached the quarterfinals. Later, producer Peter Hoffman heard Devillish outside the big stage - in a small bar called Gröninger Bad. He once said:

And he was right. Peter brought four teenagers to the studio to introduce them to his colleagues Patrick Benzner, Dave Roth and David Jost.

He also suggested changing the name of the group. Bill, as the leader, chose the Tokio Hotel option: the German spelling of Tokyo and "hotel" as the place where he would like to live on tour.

Together the guys wrote 15 songs, and one, "Durch den Monsun", was released on August 15, 2005 as a single. The next morning the German boys woke up popular.

In less than a week, Tokio Hotel's first released song reached # 1 on the German charts. Durch den Monsun has been appreciated in Australia, Great Britain and Canada. At the same time, the team shot a video that was tirelessly played on all major TV channels. The music and the shocking look of the twins - at the age of 14, both had piercings, Tom wore long dreadlocks, and Bill painted his nails on his hands and eyed black - did their job, and in a matter of days the group gathered many fans.

In September of the same year, Tokio Hotel's debut album "Schrei" ("Shout") was released, which included 12 tracks in German. A year later, it was rerecorded due to the fact that Bill's voice began to break, and was called "Schrei - so laut du kannst" ("Shout - as loud as possible"). Three songs were added to it, including the one dedicated to mice "Schwarz".

The main hit "Schrei" became the anthem of German youth. It was the protest of a teenager against the oppression of adults who say what to do and how to live. For the sake of filming a video for this song, the group and their fans staged a pogrom in a two-story house, which Peter Hoffman bought for several tens of euros. Next, Tokio Hotel released a video version of the song "Rette Mich". It was devoted to the problem of suicide.

For their debut album in March 2006, the group received the König Pilsener Arena award, which was previously awarded to famous stars: Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue, Whitney Houston. 11,600 spectators came to Tokio Hotel's performance as part of the award.

"Schrei" sold thousands of copies. Despite the fact that there were difficulties in the biography of Bill - his voice broke, the group gave concerts. In some compositions the soloist wheezed, and in some he squeaked, but tickets for performances sold out in minutes. In the hit parade, the song "Der letzte Tag" overtook the tracks of John Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones.

In 2007, Tokio Hotel released the album Zimmer 483. One of the songs, "Reden", was written entirely by Tom Kaulitz, confirming his role as a plunderer of women's hearts - the lyrics contain hints of a crazy night with a girl. A few months later the team decided to translate "Schrei" into English. This is how the collection "Scream" appeared.

In between the recordings, the Kaulitz brothers participated in fashion shows: Bill took to the catwalk for the fashion house Dsquared2, and Tom joined the Reebok advertising campaign. In addition, their faces graced the cover of Vogue and Audi ads.

And in 2014, "Kings of Suburbia" was released, followed by a large-scale tour of Europe, Asia, Latin America and the USA.

In 2016, Bill Kaulitz decided to try his hand at solo creativity and released the album I'm not OK. A year later, the fifth studio album “Dream Machine” was released, which, however, did not rise in the charts above 5th place (Germany).

The band's history did not end with the 5th album release. In March 2018, the musicians completed their tour in support of "Dream Machine" and took a creative break.

According to updates on Instagram, Bill participates in fashion shows and works on his own line of clothes, while Tom is arranging a personal life with Heidi Klum. The couple's provocative photos first appeared in March 2018 when they were leaving a restaurant in Mexico. Later, the paparazzi repeatedly caught lovers during joint weekends.

Georg Listing and Gustav Schaefer, unlike the twins, have already built family nests. They spend their free time with their spouses and children in their native Magdeburg.
