Therr Maitz has been on the music scene since 2004, but does not fit into the mainstream. In principle, the artists do not sing in Russian, the indie genre they preach with an admixture of hip-hop, house and disco is incomprehensible and informal for many. But this makes the musicians happy, because following generally accepted canons has nothing to do with real life.

According to the soloist of the group Anton Belyaev, the group arose during his studies at the Khabarovsk Institute of Culture, in 1997. People, cities and countries have changed over time.

At some point, the guys realized that it was impossible to give concerts without their own name. Translation of the name is a separate story:

Ants play a key role. It was during a party in an apartment, with the use of alcohol and drugs. There is a mess all around, a spilled martini on the table. It was the insects that smelled it. Some of those present, without understanding, called them termites - Termites. The word was somewhat transformed so that there would be no associations with other representatives of the fauna.

The first professional staff gathered in the Rus club, where Belyaev worked as an art director: guitarist Dmitry Pavlov, bassist Maksim Bondarenko, trumpet player Kostya Drobitko and drummer Yevgeny Kozhin. All participants in one way or another in their work are associated with jazz. On the technical basis of the club, the band recorded their first hits - "Paris Line", "The Ocean", "The Flow". The first of them was released in Germany in 2004 and included in the album "Future Sounds Of Jazz".

In the 2000s, life brought musicians to different angles. Anton went to Japan, Maxim and Dmitry - to Moscow, Konstantin - to Korea. In 2006, Belyaev also moved to the capital, began working as a sound producer. According to the singer, I always wanted to move, because

And when I got tired of such existence, I realized that it was time to revive the group. By this time, some of the musicians left Therr Maitz. But before the guys managed to release the album "Sweet Oldies", collected from the old material.

New acquaintances agreed to unite with the performer - guitarist Nikolai Sarabyanov and drummer Boris Ionov, at that time the boyfriend of Polina Gagarina. Boris came not alone, but with his friend Artem Tildikov, former bass player of Zemfira.

In the role of a backing vocalist in the men's team, the only woman appeared - Victoria Zhuk, a member of the Los Devchatos trio. She also writes songs in Russian in the group, which Therr Maitz has not yet performed in public. The Termeians recorded the compositions “Robots”, “Yes it is”, “Nothing's Gonna Change” with the girls.

The renewed line-up successfully performed at the Maksidrom, MIGZ, Bosco Fresh Fest festivals and was warmly received among the world's best indie musicians. In the comments to the video on Youtube, in which Therr Maitz performs a cover of Chris Isaac's hit "Wicked Game", there are more foreign reviews than from compatriots.

In 2014, the band released the album "Unicorn". Two songs from him - "Make It Last" and "Feeling Good Tonight" - occupied the top lines of iTunes. In the summer, Therr Maitz embarked on their first tour of Russia. In 2015, Therr Maitz was named Best Russian Artist by iTunes Store and Apple Music.

In the fall of 2015, concerts in England followed, and upon their return, the artists presented two videos at once - "Harder" and "Found U". Delighted spectators awarded the musicians with laudatory reviews: "Nuggets!", "Music of Life", "Very Sensual and Beautiful." By the end of the year, Therr Maitz finally finished their 4-year-long work on the video for "Doctor".

Anton and his wife, and part-time director of the group, Julia, starred in black and white video. The shooting was carried out by Sergei Golovach, known for his actions against AIDS and oncology, in which the stars of Russian cinema, pop music, and politicians took part.

In May 2016, the single 365 was presented. The song was chosen as a soundtrack for the youth TV series "Univer". But the track became a real hit when a musician from Yekaterinburg, Andrey Mulikov, aka Luxesonix, released a remix. At the end of the year, the group snatched victory at the MTV Europe Music Awards from Basta, Elka, Leningrad and their Moscow colleagues in the OQJAV genre.

Another composition, “My love is like”, took the lead in the Russian iTunes segment. In May 2018, the number of views of the video on Youtube exceeded 5 million. In the video, the musicians expressed their own credo - not to fit into the framework, to be a person. Victoria Zhuk played the main character, in love with a butcher performed by Boris Ionov, and all the others - participants in the show "Dances" on TNT.

In 2017, the composition of the team was renewed again. Boris and Artem were replaced by guitarist Dmitry Fomin and drummer Ignat Kravtsov. “Termeis” delighted fans with performances on “New Wave”, in Ukraine and the Baltics, and also announced a joint charity project with Sony Music: the proceeds from the sale of the single “Undercover” will go to orphanages.

Perhaps the reason for Ionov's departure was the scandalous incident at the Khrabrovo airport. Being drunk, Boris got into a fight with the landing dispatcher and broke his nose. In an interview with a HELLO.RU journalist, the leader of the group said that his colleague's stay at Therr Maitz is in question and they will decide what to do next.

The general public learned about the band with a difficult to pronounce name in 2013. Then Anton charmed the jury of the TV show "The Voice", in which he reached the semifinals. By that time, the group had managed to occupy its niche among professionals and connoisseurs of the genre, but longed for a big breakthrough.

According to Belyaev, the musicians received their first offer to participate in a major event an hour after they were shown on television. Thanks to Golos, there is no longer any need to explain to the listeners what they are singing; proposals to the previously unformatted group are poured one after another. And the amount of the fee for a private concert, according to GQ, is 2 million rubles.

Therr Maitz frontman cannot stand the Russian stage and believes that pop music has reached a critical point. Anton is pleased with the sprouts of the new, the formation of the scene, which will change the existing gray mass for the better. And it doesn't matter that not everything is going smoothly and not as fast as we would like. The trend towards the fact that society does not reject what is not understood the first time has already emerged.

The commercial component in the group's work is in last place. The songs are not heard from every window, but this is not an end in itself for Therr Maitz. As Belyaev noted, writing songs for charts is also a skill, but its essence does not allow it to be done.

Anton envies Zemfira and "Mumiy Troll" that they found an opportunity to sing in Russian, and he is not an opponent, but did not meet worthy authors of poetry. And if harmony is not felt, then there is no point in taking such a step just for the sake of expanding the audience of Therr Maitz. The leader of the group is sure that their songs will remain in people, they will be listened to in two years, and in three years.

In January 2018, Therr Maitz participated in the new LiveFest music festival. The event brought together representatives of fashionable youth trends in Rosa Khutor. In addition to Anton Belyaev's team, Pompeya and Dolphin, Skryptonite and Burito, Alekseev and Vremya i Steklo and a couple of dozen other performers shared their creativity.

Musical performances were accompanied by screenings of films and theatrical performances, discussions and master classes with relevant characters in the media space.

The group spent the spring and summer on tour, the stops were published on the official website. The tour is organized in support of the new studio album "Capture", which is scheduled for release in August.
