Biography
After studying law in his native Greece, Théo Angelopoulos spent 1962 in Paris, studying successively at the Sorbonne and at IDHEC. Back in Athens, he was film critic for the daily Allagi until the Colonels' coup d'état of April 21, 1967.
After the short film Ekpombi, Théo Angelopoulos directed his first feature in 1970, La Reconstitution, Grand Prix du Festival de Salonika. The filmmaker then looks at the history of his country with a trilogy started in 1972 by Days of 36, continued three years later with Le Voyage des comediens and then completed in 1977 by Les Chasseurs.
The contemplative works of Théo Angelopoulos are demanding and confusing for the general public. Alexander the Great, who tells the story of a Greek brigand, won the Golden Lion in Venice in 1980. Another Lion, this time Silver, returned in 1988 to his Landscape in the Fog.
In the 90s, Théo Angelopoulos' work was recognized at the highest level. Five years after Le Regard d'Ulysse won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, the filmmaker saw his Eternite and one day obtain the Palme d'Or in 1998. He then took a break in his career and returned in 2004 with Eleni , first part of a trilogy on the 20th century through the prism of a love story followed in 2007 by The Dust of Time (still unpublished in France). He then took part in the compilation Everyone's Cinema at the Mundo Invisível Sketches Films and worked on a film dedicated to the bankruptcy of Europe, "a dream that collapsed very quickly" .
