I have a small rib tattoo and although this is considered one of the most painful areas, it didn't hurt that much. I expected it to be much worse. But it is small. I don't know about the whole sleeve. Otherwise mine is hidden and very few people know I have it. Not that it's a problem, because I do art and I'm currently in a country where people openly demonstrate their sexual orientation and everything, without impressing anyone, so I'm not going to upset anyone with a tattoo. However, think about how it would be accepted in your field and in the environment in which you work.
