While waiting for a response to the submissions, the 18-year-old played from time to time in small clubs in London. It was there that one evening she met a “guardian angel” who saved her from studying English literature and opened the way to the boundless creative world.

This man turned out to be a manager named Paul Charles, who was looking for talented performers to work with Warner Records, a recording studio that was directly related to the leader of the Hollywood film industry. Tanita liked the management and producers, and after several months of rehearsals, the audience got to know the debut single "Good Tradition".

In 1988, Tanita Tikaram signed an official contract with Warner Records and soon after that she released the full-length studio album "Ancient Heart", unexpectedly for many, became one of the most popular projects of the late 1980s.

The songs "Cathedral Song", "World Outside Your Window" and "He Likes the Sun", accompanied by sad and unusual music, received accolades from critics, and the song "Twist in My Sobriety" became the most famous hit overnight.

After concerts in 20 countries of the world, the album received a number of gold and platinum certificates and won the first lines in the charts of four European countries. Tanita, who was insecure about her own talent, was able to reveal hidden possibilities and, through music, convey to the listeners her inner experiences and deep philosophical views.

After receiving 2 nominations for the prestigious UK National Awards, Tikaram continued to work in the studio and released three high-quality and successful albums one after another.

Despite the fact that "Eleven Kinds of Lonelines" did not reach the peak of popularity and was limited to the only single "You Make the Whole World Cry", the records "The Sweet Keeper" and "Everybody's Angel" entered the British charts. At the same time, the last of them became famous also thanks to the compositions "Only the Ones We Love" and "Mud in Any Water", where the voice of the famous American singer Jennifer Jean Warnes, who was a close friend of Leonard Cohen, longtime idol of Tanita, sounded on the backing vocals.

Then a break came in the creative career of an extraordinary young performer, which was required to rethink her own position and create new material. In 1995, Chikaram returned to the stage with a new studio album, "Lovers in the City", which received flattering reviews and, unlike its three predecessors, achieved success and good sales.

However, the singer did not renew her expired contract with Warner Records and ended her collaboration with the release of The Best of Tanita Tikaram.

The next album, titled "The Cappuccino Songs", was released with the assistance of Italian composer and instrumentalist Marco Sabiu, who previously worked with such famous performers as Christopher Lee and Kylie Minogue, as well as Take That. But despite the new electronic sound and the participation in the recording of a large number of session musicians, this work reached 69 in the UK national chart and did not produce a single outstanding single.

Disappointed with the failure, Tanita left the stage for several years and did not give interviews to any publication or music channel. Only in 2005, the singer broke the silence and released a synthetic album entitled "Sentimental" at a French recording studio.

And although this new discography did not bring commercial success, thanks to the ballad "Don't let the cold", recorded as a duet with new-wave vocalist Nick Lowe, the singer was satisfied with the work done and decided to release another electronic album. However, in the process of preparing the material, difficulties arose with the studio and producers, and the new disc was released only in 2012.

The CD "Can't Go Back", which was to become the embodiment of the singer's new outlook, was co-written with longtime acquaintance guitarist Mark Cresswell and was released in a special edition, supplemented by acoustic versions of Tanita's most popular songs.

He received a silver certificate from the Independent Music Companies Association and was presented at concerts in several European capitals and at a large solo performance held in April 2013 at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow.

It so happened that Tanita fell into the category of performers whose songs and videos were understandable only to a select category of listeners, and, focusing on this unofficial status, she paid attention to the blues genres and released the 9th studio album "Closer to the People" with her own black and white cover photo.
