Tancy Minus

Russian musical group, working in the genres of indie rock, brit-pop and alternative rock. The founder and leader of the group is musician, singer and TV presenter Vyacheslav Petkun.

The group "Tantsy Minus" was founded by musician Vyacheslav Petkun, who at first lived in St. Petersburg and played in the rock group "Secret voting". In 1992 Petkun left the group and formed his own ensemble called "Dances". In the summer of the same year, the first concert of this group took place in the Central Park of Culture and Rest.

Under the name "Dances Minus" the group first performed in May 1994 at the Victory Day festival, but formally, the spring of 1995 is considered the time of the ensemble's founding. Petkun this year moved to Moscow in the company of bassist Oleg Polevshchikov, and the musicians began to give concerts there.

In an interview, Petkun admitted that he was not satisfied with the slow course of life in St. Petersburg. The musician wanted to make decisions and implement ideas faster, the Moscow pace of life suited him better, in the capital Petkun felt like a fish in water.

Now the group "Tantsy Minus" consists of soloist, guitarist, author of words and music Vyacheslav Petkun, bass player Mikhail Khait, guitarist Anton Khabibulin, keyboard player Sergei Khashchevsky, drummer Oleg Zanin and musician Alexander Mishin, who takes part in the life of the group from time to time and plays on an acoustic guitar.

Mikhail Khait appeared in the group in 1999 after Oleg Polevshchikov left it. Anton Khabibulin joined "Dances" in 2006 after the band parted with the previous guitarist, then Alexander Mishin joined the group.

Drummer Oleg Zanin appeared in the group in 2007, and keyboardist Sergei Khashchevsky - in 2010. Before that, the musician had already played in many bands, such as "Bulldozer", "Trunks", etc.

The lead singer of the group Vyacheslav Petkun has a reputation as an extravagant person. For example, in 2003, the singer appeared in a dressing gown at the show, which was held as part of the "High Fashion Week". In his youth, Petkun played football, and having become famous, he began to appear in various football talk shows, on the Sport FM radio, and also became an expert in the sports editorial office of the Moskovsky Komsomolets and Soviet Sport newspapers.

Since 1997, the group has been giving concerts a lot and at the same time recorded their debut album, which was called "10 drops". According to the group leader's own admission, while working on the first album, the musicians still thought little about the musical aesthetics and what result they want to get. Nevertheless, the album turned out to be good. "Ten drops" - a mixture of jazz, swing and new wave, cello and saxophone sound among the instruments.

Real success came to "Dances" in 1999, when the song "City" was released, which became as popular as the music of Zemfira and "Mumiy Troll". In the same year, "Dances Minus" played at the international music festival "Maksidrom" organized by radio "Maximum", at the "Megahaus" festival in "Luzhniki" and at the "Yubileiny" sports palace.

The second album, Flora and Fauna, was completed in the fall of 1999, and two new videos were released at the same time. Some well-known producers, in particular Leonid Gutkin, expressed the opinion that there is not a single composition on the new album that could become a hit. But practice has shown the opposite. Radio stations willingly took the songs of the group and played them on the air. The presentation of the album was attended by "residents" from the zoo - a leopard, a boa constrictor, a crocodile and others.

A year later, Dancing Minus was involved in the work on the film Coming Out, directed by Igor Kalenov. The band created a soundtrack for this project, which they later recorded as a separate album. Later, Igor Kalenov attracted the group to participate in his other film, Cinderella in Boots, and even later made a documentary about Dancing Minus themselves.

In 2001, Vyacheslav Petkun announced that the group was disbanding, and this attracted attention to the team. In particular, the clips of "Dancing Minus" began to be shown on the MTV channel, where the group had not previously been given attention. As a result, the group did not break up, but, on the contrary, released a new album by the end of the year, which was called "Losing a Shadow".

Alla Pugacheva came to the press conference on the occasion of the release of the album. Prior to that, Petkun starred in the singer's video, and after "Dancing Minus" took part in the concert program "Christmas Meetings", which was conducted by Alla Pugacheva. Petkun said that it was like getting an audience with the Pope. For many of those present, happiness was simply to be photographed with Pugacheva and stand next to the legendary singer.

In 2002, Vyacheslav Petkun began to host a talk show on the STS TV channel dedicated to show business. At the same time, the singer took part in the project Notre Dame de Paris, the Russian version of the famous French musical, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Notre Dame Cathedral. Petkun played the role of the hunchback Quasimodo in this musical.

Due to the busyness of the vocalist, the group began to tour less, but the popularity of "Dances" increased sharply. Due to the massive popularity of the musical Vyacheslav Petkun, they began to invite to participate in "pop" concerts, alone and with the group.

At the end of 2003, the group played their first acoustic concert at the Moscow Art Theater, and before that, in the fall, they released the collection Best, which included hits. The next couple of years the group actively performed and worked on a new album called "... EYUYa.,". The album was released in 2006, and at the same time another collection of hits was released.

The group periodically participates in music festivals. "Dances" performed four times at the "Maksidrom" festival, and also from 2000 to 2010 appeared several times at the "Invasion" rock music festival. The band also took part in the 2005 Russian Winter Festival in London.

In November 2018, "Dances Minus" will play a big solo concert at the Moscow club GlavClub Green Concert.

In June the ensemble performed at the Roof Music Fest in St. Petersburg. The concert took place on a picturesque rooftop at the Roof Place music club on the Leather Line. In August, Moscow hosted a fireworks festival in the Brateevsky Cascade Park, in which the group also took part.

In the spring of 2018, the Dances Minus group performed at the 16 Tons Moscow club and in the Vegas City Hall, in the Cosmonaut club in St. Petersburg. The group also gave several concerts in Russian cities - Vologda, Cherepovets, Sochi.

Vyacheslav Petkun took part in the work on the project "The Tale of Zhenya and Mila". This is a children's audio performance from the publishing house Zangavar based on the book of the writer and artist Dmitry Gvidonov. Petkun played four roles in this audio performance, including one of the key ones - the role of the Soldier.
