Tana's biography began in Burlington, Vermont, USA, where she was born in the spring of 1973. Her mother, Elena Khvostoff-Lombardi, was an economist and her father, David French, worked as an economist in the management and allocation of resources for the developing world. For some time, the French family lived in Malawi, Italy, Ireland and other countries. After graduating from high school, she moved to Dublin and there she entered Trinity College.

Learning the basics of acting on stage, the aspiring actress gradually forgot about her former passion for literature. Work in the theater after graduation absorbed French. Basically, it took place in a local theater, from time to time the girl had a chance to appear in films. But the roles there were so inconspicuous that Tana was not remembered by the viewer, and therefore did not receive the desired fame.
Thus passed 34 years of French's life, but in an instant her life turned upside down. In her free time between auditions, she found inspiration for Tanu, which unexpectedly revived a woman's love for writing. Since childhood, the writer read exclusively crime novels and intricate detective stories, and the time has come to invent the story herself, the question of choosing a genre was no longer there.
In 2007, French's bibliography included the first book entitled In the Woods. It tells about detective Rob Ryan, who never told anyone about the worst day of his childhood. During a walk with his comrades in the forest, the boy's friends disappeared without a trace, and he was found only by a miracle, he did not understand anything and was stained with blood.
Already in adulthood, Rob realizes that the past is returning, only now, as a policeman, he himself is investigating the murder of a 12-year-old girl in the same forest. He has no leads, except for some rumors and vague memories, which later help the man to reveal the secret of the death of little Katie.

Tana herself, and all her entourage, did not suspect that the first book written would have such a success. She was recognized in Ireland, in other countries she was greeted with rave reviews. As an aspiring writer, French began to be invited to the presentation of literary prizes, and since the author's book became a bestseller in hard and paperback, the woman won the Dream Debut nomination.
The popularity of Tana's first book did not stop there, for 8 years since the release, 1 million copies of it were sold, and since the excitement did not subside for a long time, in 2015 the production studios Euston Films and Veritas decided to shoot the series. Soon, readers saw a film adaptation of the novel. Another small win for the author was being listed in Flavorwire magazine and one of the 50 places on the list of the best debut novels since 1950. The book was also recognized at the 2007 Edgar Allan Poe Awards and the 2008 Anthony, Macavity and Barry Awards.

Since the release of the work, readers have been eagerly awaiting the presentation of the next one. And already in the summer of 2008, French delighted fans with a new novel called "The Dead Return". Here again, the main role is played by a detective investigating a murder. Arriving at the scene of the crime, Cassie Maddox discovers that the victim is similar to her, like a twin sister.
The police are planning to take advantage of this circumstance in order to catch the offender with live bait, and rumor has it that the girl was saved. It would seem that everything is going according to plan, but every day law enforcement officers have more and more questions.
This book was also a success and immediately took off in bestseller lists in different countries of the world, and was also in the rating of the best works according to The New York Times for a couple of months. According to the writer, the birth of this novel was inspired by Donna Tartt's book "The Secret History", where the plot demonstrates that friendship is too strong and in rare cases leads to murder.

After that, Tana took a break from writing for a while. The next edition of French went on sale only in the summer of 2010. Another detective story "A Life-Long Night" tells about a pair of lovers who were never destined to be together.
