Biography
Ted Williams owns dozens of fantastic books. His cycles "Memory, Sorrow and Thorns", "Foreign Land", "March of Shadows" absorb the reader with the subtlety of the narrative, the psychology of the characters and the abundance of magical, amazing phenomena. Even George RR Martin, creator of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, is in awe of Williams' work. In total, more than 17 million copies of his novels have been sold out in the world.
fact
Childhood and youth
Robert Paul Williams was born on March 14, 1957 in San Jose, California, and grew up in Palo Alto, the unofficial capital of Silicon Valley, home to the world's largest corporations Apple, Facebook and Tesla Motors.
The author's name Ted appeared thanks to Williams' mother: she called her son this way in childhood after one of the characters in the comic book "Pogo" by Walter Kelly.
Before becoming a science fiction writer, Ted Williams changed many professions: distributing newspapers, selling shoes, running a large financial firm, and drawing illustrations for army manuals. The man came to creativity in the late 1980s.
fact
Personal life
Ted Williams' personal life turned out happily - together with his wife Deborah Biel, he raised two children. The family now lives in Northern California with "so many cats, dogs, turtles, house ants and banana slugs that it is impossible to count." The writer admitted that he was even ready to start Instagram for the sake of photos of his pets.
fact
Books
Williams' passion for science fiction was instilled by his mother, who read him at night the magical stories of Edith Nesbit, Kenneth Graham and, of course, John R.R. Tolkien.
The long list of authors who have inspired Williams to literary achievement include Ray Bradbury, Kurt Vonnegut, Hunter S. Thompson, Philip K. Dick, Jorge Luis Borges, William Shakespeare and even Jane Austen.
In Williams, by the way, they also see a muse. For example, his cycle "Memory, Sorrow and Thorns" is among the works that pushed George RR Martin to create a series "A Song of Ice and Fire." Echoes of his work can be found in Robin Hobb, Terry Goodkind, Blake Charlton.

The first work that Ted Williams took to the publisher was the novel "Tailpipe, or The Adventures of a Young Cat" (1985). To force the publishers to read the manuscript, the science fiction writer spread a rumor that he was planning to steal what he wrote and immediately destroy it. The trick worked. DAW Books appreciated the book and sent it to print.
At the same time, Williams did not quit working. For example, from 1987 to 1990, he wrote instructions for Apple: he talked with engineers, and then explained in simple language how to fix a particular technical problem. This experience formed the basis of the "Inozemye" cycle.
Since 1990, Williams has been focusing only on literature.
The writer chose science fiction and fantasy as the main genres, because they give freedom: “I can write any biography for the main character, do whatever I want with him, but every 5-10 pages something terrible will try to eat him. Readers are very supportive of fantasy experimentation. "
Williams gravitates towards long and complex novels. The series "Memory, Sorrow and Thorns" was originally conceived as a trilogy, but the final book "Toward the Tower of the Green Angel" was so voluminous that it had to be split into two - "The Road of the Winds" and "Tower of the Green Angel". The same fate befell the Shadow March series.
The Bobby Dollar series consists of shorter books. Williams made this decision deliberately because "people are intimidated by the size of my work." At the same time, the stories are not connected with each other.
Writers write books in different ways: for someone it is important to first draw characters and circumstances, while Williams focuses on the idea. For example, Bobby Dollar was based on the Cold War, while the idea of Memory, Sorrow and Thorns was to describe the world after the death of a great king like King Arthur. Williams takes a few ideas as a basis, mixes them up and see if the plot comes out alive.
Ted Williams' bibliography includes the series Memory, Sorrow, and Thorns, Outland, March of Shadows, Adventure at Ordinary Farm, Bobby Dollar, and The Last King of Austen Arda. The novels were created outside the series.

It continues the plot of the 1st part "Witchcraft". The series is planned as a trilogy.
