The heyday of Steve Reeves as a professional bodybuilder came in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Then he took part in the prestigious competition "Mister Universe", and then, after finishing his career in sports, he connected his life with cinema.

The biography of Stephen Reeves began on January 21, 1926, and he took the first steps towards fame in an ordinary American family. Father and mother, Leicester and Golden, owned a ranch in Montana, and from the age of 5, their son worked on a farm.

Hard work and physical activity did not frighten little Steve, as he and his parents won the "Healthy Kid of the County Valley" competition. As a child, this helped to channel irrepressible energy in the right direction and came in handy while studying at school, as well as serving in the army.

The character formed during this period made it possible to cope with family difficulties that arose after Reeves Sr. got into a car accident. The boy and his mother, left without support, decided to change their place of residence and moved to California in 1936.

There, Steve, not burdened with work, entered an educational institution in Auckland and, having met a local coach, began to visit the gym. After graduation, he was drafted into the army and fought in the Philippines, distinguishing himself in a number of battles.

In September 1946, Steve was demobilized and returned to his homeland, weighing 98 kg with a height of 185 cm. In order not to lose his shape, he began to actively play sports and soon caught the eye of eminent athletes and bodybuilders.

In between training and filming, Steve found time for his personal life, in which, according to American publications, there were at least two wives. In his first marriage with a Polish countess, the bodybuilder had children, and a wife named Alina was the embodiment of a real family.

It was with her that Reeves spent time in his old age on his own ranch in sunny California, feeling the support in the writing of the book and the horse breeding business. But in 1989, Alina died after a serious illness, and the man abandoned the relationship, spending the rest of the days alone.

Thanks to a special training program developed by mentor Ed Yarik, in his youth, Reeves became a professional bodybuilder in a couple of months. The size of his biceps in a short time reached 47 cm in girth, and he had to do a number of exercises to allow other muscles to develop.

This balanced approach has made Steve a Muscle Coast star and a Mr. West America title since his first professional competitions. His arms, legs, chest and waist have earned separate awards and diplomas and surpassed the ideal parameters of the famous athlete George Eiferman.

The photographers who worked at the competitions appreciated Reeves' merits in their own way and offered the new winner to study the stage skills. As a result, after graduating from theater courses, he came to the film "Samson and Delilah", but then turned down the role, as he was not yet ready for cinema.

Instead of becoming a Hollywood actor, Steve wished to become "Mr. Universe", but he was able to achieve this title only in 1950. In this competition, held in London, he defeated the legendary Reg Park, who served as a role model for the famous American Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In subsequent years, keeping in shape thanks to his own training method, Reeves decided to repeat the film experience and, finally, open the filmography. He successfully debuted in the film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", and then left America and went to conquer Europe.

The most famous work of the athlete, which contributed to the popularization of bodybuilding, was the role in the films "Exploits of Hercules" and "Hercules and Queen Lydia". There, Steve in the form of a demigod - the son of Zeus and Alcmene - appeared on the screen in the company of a beautiful Italian woman known as Silva Koshin.

Having gained popularity among the audience, Reeves stopped participating in competitions, but thanks to the independent performance of stunts, he maintained excellent physical shape. His figure exactly matched the illustrious characters of the past: the English pirate Henry Morgan and the Roman heroes Romulus and Glaucus.

Steve, who, contrary to rumors, was not related to Keanu Reeves, thanks to training without the use of steroids, lived to his old years. In early 2000, doctors diagnosed him with lymphoma, and the cause of death on May 1 was a blood clot that came off after surgery.
