Biography
Coming from a family of six children, Steve Coogan took his first steps in acting at the Manchester Polytechnic School of Theater. He then began his career as an actor by doing voices for commercials or for the English television show Spitting Image (1984). He embarked on a radio career with the comedy show On the Hour, where his most famous character, Alan Partridge, was born. In 1997 followed a first television series, I'm Alan Partridge.
After a small role in Paul Greengrass' 1989 film Resurrected, the actor Steve had to wait six years, and Frank Oz's The Indian from the closet, for his film career to take off. His interpretation of the boss of Factory Records, Tony Wilson, in the credits of 24 Hour Party People by Michael Winterbottom, finally offers him the recognition of the spectators in 2001. However, he decides to remain faithful to the films of authors and proves it by turning in Coffee and cigarettes (2002) by Jim Jarmusch. Soon after, he tried his hand at writing with the screenplay for The Parole Officer directed by John Duigan, for which he also played the lead role. In the space of a year, he accumulated no less than 5 films, including Happy Endings by Don Roos and the remake of Around the World in 80 Days with Jackie Chan. The newspaper
He reunited with Michael Winterbottom in 2004, to play the title role of his wacky comedy, Shooting in an English Garden, alongside Stephen Fry and Gillian Anderson. The following year, he obtained a secondary role in Sofia Coppola's third film, Marie-Antoinette, presented in official competition at the 59th Cannes Film Festival. He remains faithful to the register of comedy, more schoolboy this time, by giving the reply to Ben Stiller in the crazy Night at the museum, cardboard to the American soundtrack in 2007 with more than 250 million dollars of receipts, of which the continuation is planned for 2009. Between these two films, he finds Ben Stiller in the middle of the gang of actors in galley of Tonnerre sous les Tropiques.
In 2010, Steve Coogan played Hades, god of the Underworld, in the fantastic blockbuster Percy Jackson the Lightning Thief. The same year, we see him as a villain opposite Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell in the hilarious The Very Bad Cops. Loving to vary the projects, Coogan plays his own role in the film and the television series which ensues, The Trip (2011), and is positioned at the head of the poster of A Very Englishman (2013) where he finds for the fourth time Michael Winterbottom. In this biopic, the actor plays Paul Raymond, owner of private clubs and adult magazines, who in 1992 became the richest man in England.
