The horror-punk-rock group "Tales of the Black City" loudly declared itself in 2007 and since then has confidently conquered the Russian stage. Fans learned about the band with the release of the song "Werewolf", thinking that it belongs to "The King and the Jester", since the track was recorded together with Mikhail Gorshenev. Now their work is not confused with other teams, because over the years of work, the musicians have managed to develop their own style, thanks to which they have become recognizable.

The history of the creation of the group began in 2007 with the musician Nikolai Erokhin, who later became its leader and founder, he also took the place of vocalist, author of lyrics and music. That year Yuri Golovkov joined him as a guitarist. And then the line-up was replenished with drummer Viktor Nebolsin. The latter left the team a year later, his place was immediately taken by Dmitry Kokotovsky, who stayed with the artists until 2009. He was replaced by drummer Vladimir Golovin, who became part-time guitarist and bass-guitarist.

Golovkov played in "Tales of the Black City" until 2010, then left and again became a member of the group only in 2013 (until 2018). Now the team consists of its permanent leader and main performer Nikolai Erokhin, guitarist and backing vocalist Anton Andreev, two more guitarists Andrei Bolotov and Grigory Shvyrev and drummer Pavel Zaitsev.

Having assembled the team, "Tales of the Black City" give their first concert. It was held at the beginning of 2008 in the Voronezh art club "Coming Out". The musicians were quickly accepted, literally in a year they managed to form their own circle of listeners, which was growing rapidly. At the end of the year, the popular group "Purgen", performing in the genre of hard core punk, invited the newcomers to warm up the audience before their concert.

The group recorded their first studio mini-album “Studio Demo” in 2009, it consisted of three songs and was rather positively received by the public. Therefore, by the end of the year, the guys were invited to the rock festival "SHURF". The next time they visited such an event in the spring of 2010, it was the punk culture festival “Lessons of punk rock” organized by the Brigade Contract.

In the spring of 2010 "Tales of the Black City" for the first time performed on the same stage with the legendary group "King and Jester". That evening, there were 1,500 listeners in the hall, the Voronezh musicians were given the right to sing a couple of tracks as opening act before the main concert. Team leaders Mikhail Gorshenev (Gorshok) and Andrey Knyazev highly appreciated their music, which subsequently contributed to the further cooperation of the two groups.

Their second joint performance took place a year later at the Voronezh club. For this concert "Tales of the Black City" prepared special acoustic versions of songs and for a greater entourage invited temporary musicians with violin, flute and cello. And shortly after this event, the group shared in an interview with an Internet publication the news of the release of the second mini-album "Shoemaker".

The first full-length album in the discography of "Tales of the Black City" was "Volume I. Keepers of Dreams" in 2012. It was created digitally and made available for free download. In 2013, the musicians recorded the single "In the Thick Grass", which was later included in the second studio disc of 2014, "Volume II. Reach for the stars. " After that, the group performed at a festival in the Smolensk region together with "Pilot" and "Kukryniksy".

The most productive year for the team's creativity was 2015, only over the summer the musicians managed to take part in the festivals "Chaika", "Motoyaroslavets", "Safoniy-2015", "Crimea Fest Tochka Ru" and Fresh Sound. The third studio album “Volume III. Between Hell and Heaven ”they presented in the spring of 2017, in addition to 11 songs, it included 3 more bonus tracks. The fans saw the debut video for the song "Taste of the Night" only in the fall of 2018.

Musicians continue to delight fans with creativity even now. News from the life of the group is published on Instagram, photos and videos are also posted there. In the summer of 2019, they performed at the Taman festival in the Krasnodar Territory, in the fall they presented a new single, Prisoner of the Dark Tower, recorded together with Evgeny Egorov. And in February 2020, the musicians gave a concert in their native Voronezh.
