In the 2000s, Simon, having become a fairly well-known author in the UK, began to create the main work of his life and during the preparation stage visited the research center "Corpse Farm". Impressed by what he saw, he wrote an article for the daily newspaper The Daily Telegraph, which later took on an artistic form, and titled "The Chemistry of Death" turned it into a crime action novel.

The book, published in early 2006, features anthropologist David Hunter, who after an accident left his professional practice and retired to the remote village of Norfolk. But the dream of a peaceful existence was interrupted by the discovery of a mutilated corpse of a woman. There was a need to restore the cause and chronology of the crime, and the hero had the necessary skills and was the only person who knew a lot about this.

At first glance, the plot seemed trivial, but in the process of creation, the writer applied an unlikely "humanizing" approach. Considering that crime literature is filled with drunken, crazy and eccentric heroes, he presented the character of Hunter in a different way. As a result, the work received a nomination for the Crime Authors Association Prize and sold a huge circulation in less than a year.

Such success prompted Beckett to write a continuation of the anthropologist's story and publish the equally popular novels "Immortalized in Bones", "Whisper of the Dead", "Call from the Grave", "Cat and Mouse" and "The Dead Don't Lie." These works, along with the non-series book "Multiple Contusions", brought the author worldwide fame and were awarded the German Der Leserpreis award. This was followed by other prestigious literary awards and a victory in the European Star Fiction 'Ripper' Award.

Simon Beckett believes that readers should see him primarily as a writer, so he prefers to keep his personal life a secret.
