The musical traditions of Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, go back to ancient times. But regardless of the time, the main character of Uzbek music was the singer, storyteller or, in Uzbek, khafiz. The Hafiz, although varying, supplementing folk songs, introducing an element of individual creativity into them, from generation to generation preserved the traditional Uzbek song.

Sherali Juraev was born in 1947 in the Uzbek SSR. The exact date of his birth is unknown, but he himself chose April 12. According to his own explanation, on this day he first entered the sacred Muslim temple of the Kaaba.

Juraev began his career in 1972, immediately after graduating from the Tashkent Institute of Art. His first collective was the "Shodlik" ("Joy") song and dance ensemble, in which he worked until 1979. From 1979 to 1986, the singer worked in the regional philharmonic society in his native Andijan, and in 1986 he became a soloist of the Tashkent Philharmonic.

During his creative biography, Sherali Dzhuraev performed more than half a thousand songs, most of which he himself wrote. At concerts, the artist performs compositions written in verses of both classical oriental authors (Saadi Sherozi, Rumi) and modern Uzbek songwriters (Abdulla Aripov, Erkin Vakhidov).

Such songs as "Karvon" ("Caravan"), "Birinchi Mukhabatim" ("First Love"), "Uzbekim" ("Uzbek People") became Dzhuraev's visiting cards. The last song, among others, was featured on the well-known compilation "Rough Guide to Music of Central Asia", which was released in 2005 by World Music Network.

In the late 1980s, Sherali Dzhuraev showed himself as a writer, having published the book "The Child is the Master of the Earth" and wrote the script for the film "Sherali and Oybarchin", also playing the main role in it. The artist was transformed on the screen into a hero of Uzbek history - a storyteller and poet of the 15th century. The film tells about his life and love.

Sherali Juraev's social activities began in 1990, when he became a deputy of the Supreme Council of Uzbekistan (until 1995) and became close to the country's long-term leader, Islam Karimov. After the republic gained independence, Juraev and his songs became an instrument for the formation of post-Soviet Uzbek identity. Dzhuraev gave many concerts, his songs were heard on television and radio, audio and video cassettes were published, the number of tours increased.

Another blow to Juraev was the 2005 massacre in Andijan, his small homeland. Many perceived his attempts to persuade the refugees to return to their native lands and hope for Karimov's forgiveness as an attempt to serve the regime and return to the big stage.

He also participated in the process of reconciliation between Uzbeks and Tajiks, relations between which have always been strained, and after the collapse of the USSR turned into conflict. So, with an old friend and colleague, Tajik singer and musician Jurabek Murodov, Juraev gave a lot of concerts in the places where the two peoples lived together. In the post-Soviet era, this practice came to naught, but both singers periodically meet at concerts and call on compatriots for a good neighborhood, openness and friendship.

Despite his considerable age, the singer to this day is actively involved in creative work: new songs are recorded, clips are shot. Every year, the artist pleases fans with the release of 1-2 discs. At one time Sherali created albums in a Turkish studio. Since 2013, his albums "Yoningdaman", "Sen uchun", "Hayat Bana Aşk Borcun Var", "Men sen bilan Qirolichaman" have been released. Among the latest works it is worth noting a video for the song "Parison" (2016) and a revised version of the song "Gulbadan" (2017).

Changes have also appeared in the singer's concert activities. Both sons of Sherali Dzhuraev - Shokhjakhon and Zoirshokh - also became singers and are popular in their homeland, performing songs in the style of their father, combining a classical pop song with Uzbek folk motives.

In 2007, Sherali Dzhuraev's family made headlines in the Uzbek media in connection with a scandal. At one of the events, the singer erupted in criticism of the young Uzbek singer Botir Kodirov, who pretends to be the firstborn of the recognized master (remember the name of Sherali's second wife). Interviews with fellow countrymen of Dzhuraev immediately appeared, who began to "remember" Botir's birthday, how the young family of Sherali and Zulkhumor treated the Andijan residents on this significant day. Others said that the ex-wife was forced to change his son's name during his university studies. In general, a mysterious story covered in darkness.

Now Sherali Dzhuraev is full of energy and creative plans. In 2017, a number of videos for the artist's songs appeared. This video is "Uzbegim clip" and "Diydalar".
