In 1988, in one of the nightclubs, the guy met Ofera Nissima, the organizer of the Li La Lo collective (translated into Russian "Me, her, him"), who was actively looking for a vocalist. Thus, Yaron got the pseudonym Dan, under which he performed a parody of the popular song of the singer Whitney Houston My Name Is Not Susan. The young man's own song, Dana International, almost immediately made it into the American music charts and became a hit not only in Israel.

Together with the release of the song Dana International, Cohen gained not only fame, but also financial wealth, thanks to which in 1993 he was able to afford to go to the UK to undergo surgery to change sex from male to female. His family, parents and sister Limor, with whom the young man shared his experiences in childhood, accepted this news with ease and understanding.

After the operation, which was successful, Yaron officially changed his name to the female Sharon, and chose Dana International as his stage name. Together with the completion of the rehabilitation period, the presentation of the debut album of the same name took place, which received the status of gold.

In one of the many interviews, Sharon Cohen shared her perspective on the physical changes that have occurred to her. In 2005, at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, the composition Diva was included in the list of the 14 best songs for the entire existence of the music competition, but it could not break into the top five with its 39 points, taking 13th place.
