Sergey Udaltsov

Sergei Udaltsov is a Russian politician who has been heading the Red Youth Vanguard organization for ten years and coordinating the unification of leftist forces. Sergei Stanislavovich Udaltsov was born into the capital's family of government officials and scientists in 1977, on February 16. His relatives were members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and worked as ambassadors of the Soviet Union in Greece, Slovakia and the Baltic countries, and his great-grandfather was a supporter of the Social Democrats under Bolshevism and during the Great Patriotic War received the post of 1st rector of MGIMO.

Such a pedigree, carefully studied by the father-historian Stanislav Vasilyevich Tyutyukin, influenced the biography of the future politician, but, who bore the name of his mother from birth, in childhood he thought about something completely different.

Sergey spent a lot of time with his classmates, and after school he entered the law faculty. In the late 1990s, after studying at the Moscow Academy of Water Transport, he became interested in history and began to regard Stalin as the ideal leader.

In his youth, working as a lawyer in the publication "Glasnost", Udaltsov became interested in politics and decided to join Viktor Anpilov's movement "Labor Russia". In 1997, he took part in a demonstration action and clashed with law enforcement agencies along with others who went on the "March to Moscow".

This event awakened a desire for further action, and 2 years after the march, the young man became a candidate for the elections to the State Duma of the 3rd convocation, representing the "Stalin bloc: Labor Russia - Officers - for the USSR". However, together with other candidates from the list headed by Stanislav Terekhov and Eduard Limonov, Sergei failed to vote, but remained an active participant in the movement until the mid-2000s.

In parallel, Udaltsov created the "Vanguard of Red Youth" (AKM), which in ideology resembled a fascist organization, but adhered to the principles of Stalinism under the motto "Socialism or death!"

The activities of the AKM consisted in protests against the liberal worldview and pickets at the buildings of foreign embassies, and then the leader led like-minded people to the May demonstrations and rallies near multi-storey buildings.

In 2003, due to a political split in the Anpilogov bloc, Sergei left Trudovaya Rossiya and joined Oleg Shenin's federation, known as the SKP-KPSS. At the same time, together with public figure Ilya Ponamarev, the leader of the AKM initiated the creation of a new youth organization, and in 2008 supporters of the socialist development of Russia united in the Left Front movement.

In the 2010s, Sergei became an active supporter of mass political protests that began after the regular elections to the State Duma, and was detained dozens of times under Part 8 of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation.

The loudest incident involving Udaltsov was the case of rallies in Bolotnaya Square and attempts to create riots throughout Russia in 2012. While the proceedings were ongoing, the politician was under house arrest, but this did not prevent him from contacting the opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was running for mayor of Moscow.

However, the verdict handed down by the court in the summer of 2014 deprived the politician of such communication, and in his final speech Sergei announced a protracted hunger strike, which lasted for almost a month in a cell in Matrosskaya Tishina.

In August 2017, after the end of his prison term, Udaltsov returned to politics and announced his desire to unite left-sided figures to participate in the presidential elections. But after criticism of the main opponents of the head and the leadership of Russia, this idea did not materialize, and Sergei supported the candidacy of P.N. Grudinin.

Sergei's personal life turned out to be closely connected with politics, since in 2001 his girlfriend Anastasia, who was a member of the Vanguard of Red Youth and the now banned movement of nationalist Bolsheviks in Russia, became his wife.

The appearance of two children, Oleg and Ivan, briefly interrupted the activist's daily work, but she helped her husband maintain an author's blog on a popular platform, and now Udaltsova's name is on the list of candidates for the Moscow City Duma.

In May 2019, Udaltsov, who continues to coordinate the movement of the Left Front, took part in a brawl outside the building of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.
