The well-known politician Sergei Shakhrai, a statesman and a doctor of legal sciences, became one of the authors of the creation of the constitution of the Russian Federation. At the same time, from 1990 to 1992, Sergei was a People's Deputy of the RSFSR, and was also a member of the Smena parliamentary group and, together with other organizers, founded the Left Center group. Then the career of the politician quickly went up. Until 1991, he chaired the Committee of the Supreme Council on legislation, then became a member of its presidium and, finally, joined the ranks of representatives of the Supreme Council.

After some time, the deputy receives the post of deputy chairman of the government, under which he oversees the work of the State Committee for National Policy, as well as the Ministry of Security, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice. Significant for his career of that period was his participation in the preparation of documents for the signing of the Belovezhskaya Agreement.

However, the minister soon had to leave his post for a short time and take over as head of the temporary administration in the territory where the Ossetian-Ingush conflict was taking place at that time. His responsibilities included ensuring interaction between the state committees of the Russian Federation and the temporary administration to resolve issues on the state of emergency on the territory of Ingushetia and North Ossetia.

Soon Shakhrai became a member of the Committee on National Policy, as well as Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. Since 1992 and for the next 4 years, Sergei has been a member of the Russian Security Council. Further events also became significant for a man's career. Since 1993 he has been a State Duma deputy and is a member of the country's highest legislative body.

In subsequent years, the politician also held a number of other government posts. He worked as the chief of staff of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, and a year later became the president of the National Badminton Federation, but at the personal request of the then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, he left this post in 2009.

He was also a member of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports, and members of the Interdepartmental Commission on Improving the Quality of Higher Legal Education. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Scientific Council under the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Shakhrai has long been a family man. He connected his personal life with Tatyana Yuryevna in his youth, and to this day the couple is in excellent relations. The spouse is a philologist by education. Sergei's wife gave birth to three children - the sons of Mikhail and Sergei, as well as a daughter, Maria.
