The future musician was born on February 28, 1963 in Kazan in the family of Konstantin Mavrin, an investigator of the Prosecutor General's Office for particularly important cases. When his father was transferred on duty to Moscow in 1975, the boy moved to the capital with his parents. Two years before that, he first received a guitar as a gift, on which he began to pick up the losses to the songs of the Soviet VIA "Gems" and "Flowers".

After hearing the Voice of America radio show, which was broadcasting music from Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, he decided to remake the acoustic guitar for an electric one. To create overdrive, Mavrin used pickups. The young man improved his playing technique on the repertoire of his favorite foreign rock bands. After school, Sergei went to study at the vocational school as an assembly fitter, at the same time visiting Yuri Halperin's group "Melody".

In the army, Sergei enters a military orchestra, where he plays the viola, guitar, and also sings. Private Mavrin's repertoire consisted of hits from "Earthlings", "Cruise" and "Time Machine". Demobilized, the young man decided to connect his own life with music. The first group where the musician got a job was the Black Coffee rock group, whose leader was Dmitry Varshavsky. With colleagues in 1985, Sergei went on his first tour of the USSR.

Six months later, Mavrin decided to assemble his own team, which he gave the name "Metal Accord". The musician was supported by drummer from "Black Coffee" Maxim Udalov. The group existed for a year and a half, regularly giving concerts. In 1987, Sergey Mavrin was invited to the Aria group to record the Hero of Asphalt album. Together with the guitarist, Max Udalov also joined the new team. After the first disc, Sergei also took part in the recording of two more - "Playing with Fire" and "Blood for Blood".

In the early 90s, at the invitation of a German producer, Sergei Mavrin and bass player Vitaly Dubinin went to Germany to work on the Lion Heart project. Having recorded several songs in three months, the musicians return to their homeland.

The period of work in "Aria" allowed Mavrin to develop his own style of playing, which became the hallmark of the guitarist. Since then, the musician's special touch-style technique has been called "mauring". At the same time, the artist developed a taste for certain brands of guitars: Gibson, Fender, Jackson.

In 1994, due to unsuccessful tours in Germany, there was a crisis in the group, as a result of which the frontman Valery Kipelov was forced to leave the band. Out of solidarity, Mavrin left with him. The musicians quickly created the Back to the Future group, whose repertoire consisted of hits of Creedence, Slade, Nazareth, Rolling Stones.

Six months later, the project fell apart due to Kipelov's return to Aria. Mavrin refused to cooperate with the group. Having recorded the guitar parts for several musical compositions of the American TSAR team, in 1996 the musician went to work in the team of Dmitry Malikov.

In 1997, within the framework of the new project of Kipelov and Mavrin, the first disc "Time of Troubles" was recorded, songs from which were included in the repertoire of the group "Mavrik", organized a year later.

Arthur Berkut from the Autograph group becomes the frontman of the new team. For a quick promotion, the first two albums "Wanderer" and "Neformat-1" were released under the "Aria" label. The third album "Chemical Sleep", the solo parts of which were already performed by Artem Styrov, appears in 2001. The name of the group also changes: the name of the founder appears on the cover - "Sergey Mavrin".

In 2003, Sergey collaborated with Valery Kipelov's group. The guitarist takes part in the concerts of the collective, as well as in the creation of the hit "Babylon", the song "Prophet". But a year later, the musician resumes his own project with the album Forbidden Reality. The fourth disc by Sergei Mavrin turned out to be the most successful, taking the first line of the music rating immediately after its release in January 2004. The collection includes 11 tracks, among which the most popular are "While the Gods Sleep", "Born to Live", "The Road to Paradise", "The Melting World".

In 2006 Sergei Mavrin recorded the next album "Revelation", and also went on tour with "Aria". A year later, the group's discography was replenished with a live album "Live", as well as a disc "Fortuna", in which only instrumental compositions performed by one Mavrin were collected. The end of the year was crowned with a live video of "Made In Peter", recorded in DVD format.

2010 was marked by the appearance of the sixth studio album "My Freedom", which included the tracks "My Time", "New Day", "Show Time", as well as instrumental compositions "Birth", "Fallen Star" and "Final". Two versions of the video were created for the song "Soak My Sorrows". Two years later, the musician released the single "Illusion" and the seventh studio work "Opposition", which is closest to the genre of rock opera. To perform vocal parts, the leader of the group invited Artur Berkut, Alexei Bulgakov, Vitaly Dubinin and others.

The premiere of the eighth album "Inevitable" took place only three years later. The list of tracks on the disc includes the songs "Infinity of Roads", "Guardian Angel", "Arrows in the Sky", "Ghost Ship". Not without quoting the classics: in the composition "Rose of the World" Mavrin added a musical theme from the work of Karl Orff Carmina Burana O Fortuna.

In April 2017, the release of Sergei Mavrin's new album "White Sun" took place, in which Sergei himself performed the parts of the vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist and even guslar. Help was needed only for recording the bass guitar (Sergei Borisov) and drums (Dmitry Zavidov).

From 2000 to 2008, the musician hosted a popular show about rock music "Iron Curtain" on radio "Yunost". In interviews, he repeatedly said that he plans to revive his program.
