From an early age, the child was drawn to acting. The boy arranged his performances in front of the summer residents who settled in the Makhovikovs' house in the summer. As a teenager, my mother gave her son a gift, which he later called fateful - a guitar. Since then Sergey has been composing, singing songs and writing music for films.

Having received his secondary education, Makhovikov took a different path: he entered the navigator's department at the Frunze Higher Naval Command School. Six months later, Sergei was transferred to the Military Mechanical Institute, where he studied at the missile department. Not having studied even one course, the young man became a student at LGITMiK, where he studied on Igor Gorbachev's course.

Makhovikov's creative biography began in his student years: the sophomore was admitted to the staff of the Alexandrinsky Theater. After completing his studies, the actor got a job at the theater "Shelter of Comedians".

Passion for cinema led Sergey to the film school of Alexander Sokurov, a famous Russian director. The Year of Makhovikov learned the basics of a new art for himself, and after completing the course he founded his own theater studio, directing the first production.

At the end of the 80s, Sergei Anatolyevich was invited to work at the Khabarovsk Drama Theater as a director. This city brought to Makhovikov's piggy bank two staged performances and nine film roles. In 1993, the actor appeared on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater named after A. P. Chekhov in the production of "The milk van does not stop here anymore." The beginning of the 90s brought the artist a victory in the Andrei Mironov acting song contest. Participation in it turned Sergei's career towards cinema, since he was noticed by film director Yevgeny Ginzburg and invited to his film entitled "The Innocent".

For this role Makhovikov received awards from the "Constellation" and "Smile, Russia" festivals. In 1999, the actor was elected chairman of the department of the Directorate of Presidential Programs of the Culture Fund.
