Sergey Levchenko

Sergei Georgievich Levchenko began his political career in the post-perestroika period. His competent leadership allowed the company to safely move to market rails, and the leader himself seriously thought about a political career. In 1993 he graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Russian Academy of Management under the Government of the Russian Federation and became the first secretary of the Irkutsk regional branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

1997 is a busy year for Levchenko. In April he became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. And in July he first announced himself as a candidate for the post of governor of the Irkutsk region. Then he gained only 18.8% of the vote and lost to the former mayor of Irkutsk Boris Govorin. Despite the loss, Levchenko's political career is going uphill: in December 1999, he was elected a deputy of the State Duma of the III convocation on the federal list of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (subsequently elected in 2007, 2011).
