Biography
A student of dramatic art at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York, Scott Cooper began a career as an actor on two media in 1999, first in an episode of season 7 of the X-files series and in the film Austin Powers - The spy who shot me. Subsequently, he played small roles in films and repeatedly found the one who became his mentor: Robert Duvall, with whom he played notably in Gods and Generals (2003) on the Civil War then in Le Grand jour (2009). ) alongside Bill Murray.
2009 marks a turning point for the actor who signs his first screenplay with For Sale by Owner. He holds the title role in this film directed by Robert J. Wilson with whom he had worked on Rain (2003). But it was above all that year that he directed his first feature film, Crazy Heart, for which he wrote the script adapted from Thomas Cobb's novel. The film was a critical success and won numerous awards including the Oscar for Best Actor for Jeff Bridges and Best Original Song.
Putting his acting career aside, Cooper focuses on writing and directing. There are many projects available to him and his name is often on the lists of majors looking for a director for their bigger projects. In 2013, he directed his second feature film, Les Brasiers de la Colère, still on his own screenplay and managed to assemble an impressive cast made up of Christian Bale, Casey Affleck and Woody Harrelson among others.
For his new film Black Mass, Scott Cooper again looks like a leading cast. The feature film tells the story of the real boss of the Boston underworld Whitey Bulger (who inspired the character of Jack Nicholson in The Departed). Unrecognizable, Johnny Depp slips into the shoes of this extraordinary criminal who for a long time was part of the list of the 10 most wanted people by the FBI.
