Biography
Sam Claflin, originally British, aspires to a career in football. After several health problems which made him abandon this idea, he discovered a passion for the stage by integrating the drama class of his high school. It is on television that he proves himself as an actor. In 2010, he is found in the TV movie Lost Future alongside Sean Bean, in the miniseries The Pillars of the Earth as well as in the first four episodes of Any Human Heart. The following year signs his first steps in the cinema and the actor connects the blockbusters to success.
It is found in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, The Fountain of Youth by Rob Marshall. He joins the regulars Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush by playing with Astrid Berges-Frisbey the new couple supposed to echo that of the first three opus of the saga: Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. In 2012, he played another romantic character in Rupert Sanders' Snow White and the Hunter, that of Prince Charming.
After returning to her country to film a six-episode miniseries White Heat (2012), Claflin finds herself alongside Hilary Swank in Philip Noyce's hit HBO TV movie Mary & Martha, based on a true story. In 2013, he joined the cast of the highly anticipated Hunger Games sequel alongside Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence. He plays Finnick Odair, winner of one of the old editions of the Hunger Games. A role that he will resume in the last two parts of the saga, La Révolte: Part 1 and 2, in 2014 and 2015.
Prior to that, Claflin returned to England to film the drama The Riot Club. There he plays Alistair, a student at Oxford University who is part of a very private club, reserved for an outrageous and indecent male elite. There followed two films that had never been released in French cinemas, the frightening Les Âmes silencieuses and the romantic Love, Rosie. After repeating his role of Prince William in the spectacular The Hunter and the Ice Queen, Sam Claflin falls under the spell of Emilia Clarke in Before You in which he is a wealthy banker who no longer believes in love since an accident. which left him paralyzed. Subscribed to the roles of romantic heroes, the actor then slips into the costume of a 19th century English nobleman troubled by the poisonous charm of Rachel Weisz in My Cousin Rachel.
