Biography
Ronnie Coleman belongs to a galaxy of great American bodybuilders. The owner of phenomenal anthropometric data, improved by hard training, Big Ron 8 times won the title "Mr. Olympia" and also won at other status competitions held by the International Bodybuilding Federation.
fact
Childhood and adolescence
Ronald Dean Coleman was born on May 13, 1964, in louisiana. His mother almost lost her life, producing a future champion. The big kid grew up by the hour, not by day. At the age of 12, Ronnie weighed about 80kg and reached a height of 180cm. Such physical data predetermined the fate of the boy, who from early childhood engaged in sports.
Starting with basketball and baseball, Coleman soon switched to American football. Three years after joining the school team, Ronald was included in the main squad and became the leading player of the club, participating in the competition for the Super Bowl.
Growing up, the young man left training on the field, deeming the team types of the variety traumatic, and went to college GSU for the department of accounting. In 1986, Ronnie received a bachelor's degree and began to make a living on his own in the chain of Italian pizzerias. However, mathematics did not become a calling for a potential athlete, and Ron changed the calculator to the cap of a policeman and began a career as a law enforcement officer.
The police service required constant physical training, and Coleman began to visit the "Metroflex" gym, where instead of modern simulators there were rusty rods and primitive dumbbells. The owner of the rocking Brian Dobson immediately drew attention to Ron's impressive form and personally began preparing the future champion.
Coleman did not immediately believe in the opportunity to become a star of bodybuilding, but from a free season ticket and professional coaching did not refuse. Seven months later, the policeman gained the necessary form and won the tournament "Mr. Texas" in 1990, and two years later won the title at the National American Heavyweight Championship and the title of world champion in the same category.
fact
Sports
Coleman started competing at amateur level. He received the card of a professional athlete in 1992 after winning the title of absolute world champion at the tournament in Warsaw. Not resting on his laurels, Ronnie began the hunt for the most prestigious award of bodybuilders, the title of "Mr. Olympia".
Coleman's training program was as simple and intense as possible. It consisted of power and pitching cycles and was supplemented with aerobic loads. Swinging the muscles of the back and torso, Ronnie paid special attention to the legs, alternating work with heavy and light weights. This technique allowed to keep the body in tone and avoid injuries associated with tissue rupture and joint damage.
In the end, Coleman brought his body to perfect proportions. At 180 cm tall, the athlete, who gained muscle mass, weighed 138 kg and continued to lift weights until his biceps reached the desired volume - 60 cm. In this form, Ronnie first appeared at the world famous tournament, but did not win. Without losing his presence of spirit and self-belief, the bodybuilder annually took to the podium, competing with talented and eminent rivals.
He showed off the steel muscles of his arms, legs and back, taking spectacular poses and appearing before the judges from different angles, and in 1998 achieved recognition and long-awaited victory. Since then, luck has not changed Coleman, for the next 8 years he held the title of "Mr. Olympia", breaking the record that belonged to Arnold Schwarzenegger. In addition, in the off-season Ronnie participated in various bodybuilders' competitions and regularly added no less prestigious trophies to the title of "King".
The illustrious bodybuilder became a multiple winner of the Grand Prix of Russia, Finland, Germany, England, Holland and New zealand, as well as took the highest awards at the World Professional Championships in 1999 and 2000.
Ronnie's irreconcilable opponent for many years was the American bodybuilder from Massachusetts Jay Cutler, who in 2006 in the final "Mr. Olympia" took away the victory from the record holder of the tournament. Coleman, who suffered a back injury, finished 2nd. The winning streak of the Big Ron was interrupted, and in 2007 the athlete announced his intention to end his career as a bodybuilder.
In 2010, Ronnie tried to return to the big sport and again take part in the main world competition, but did not get the necessary form and did not pass the qualifying competitions. After that, Coleman began to be criticized by experts and fans who considered the athlete's age unsuitable for world-class tournaments. The athlete himself held a different opinion and continued to work in the gym, which he had come to when he was young.
Having undergone a series of operations on the spine and hip joints, Ronnie remained in the presence of mind and in 2016 offered Cutler to hold a face-to-face competition for the title of the best bodybuilder on the planet, but was refused. However, the rivals met, but not on the sports podium, and on the set of the film-biography "Ronnie Coleman: The King", released in 2018.
fact
Personal life
Early in his sports career, Coleman met with bodybuilder Vicky Gates, who helped the athlete in training and supported him in competitions. The breakup of the relationship followed the loss of the title "Mr. Universe" and dealt a blow to the personal life of the bodybuilder.
In 2007, Ronnie married Rowade Christine Acher, who gave birth to her husband of two children, girls named Jamelia and Valencia Daniel. This marriage was not happy, and the couple soon divorced.
Coleman's third wife in 2016 was a longtime friend of Susan Williamson, a former personal trainer for the athlete. Now Sue and Ronnie are a happy couple with many children.
The athlete loves noisy family parties and often spends time surrounded by numerous relatives.
fact
Ronnie Coleman now
In the fall of 2018, Ronnie shared news of his health with reporters. The athlete feared that he could spend the rest of his time in a wheelchair because of spinal problems. The latest operations, which cost Coleman $2 million, were not successful and instead of the desired relief caused irreparable harm to the health of the famous bodybuilder.
However, soon received a refutation of this information from the author of the film about the king of bodybuilding Vlad Yudin and from Coleman himself, who posted several photos from his own cardio training on Instagram.
Ronnie is now closely following the achievements of young bodybuilders. Of particular interest to the athlete is seven-time "Mr. Olympia" Phil Heath. Coleman is looking forward to the 2019 tournament, which will determine who will be the record holder and the recognized king of bodybuilding in the near future.
