Biography

Roman Vlasov - Russian athlete, Greco-Roman style wrestler, Honored Master of Sports of the Russian Federation. Roman Vlasov received and more than once confirmed the titles of champion of Russia, champion of Europe and champion of the world. The athlete also won the Olympic Games twice, and in different weight categories: the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London in the category up to 74 kg and the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro in the category up to 75 kg.

Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Roman Vlasov was born on October 6, 1990. He spent his childhood and youth in Novosibirsk, where he lived with his mother and older brother.

Fans of the athlete are still arguing who the fighter is by nationality. By appearance, the fans determined that the champion had Turkic roots, but whether Vlasov belongs to the Tatars, Kazakhs, Altai, Khakass or other peoples of this group, the interested fans could not determine. The athlete himself does not comment on information about nationality.

The elder brother of the future Olympic champion was engaged in wrestling, and Roma wanted to be like him. Out of interest, he came with his brother to the gym when he was 6 years old. There were no children of his age in the section. At first, attending workouts for Roman was pampering. He came to the hall with a plush hare, put the toy in the locker room and seriously believed that the hare was watching him. Vlasov recalls that the atmosphere in the gym was close to him, and when the adults were allowed to hold the barbell, the boy glowed with happiness. His classes began with the simplest exercises, the coach did not let Roma onto the carpet.

Two years later, the first competition of Roman Vlasov took place. He lost the fight, got upset and cried. Then the coach explained how important a responsible approach to training is. At the age of 9, Roman Vlasov already regularly participated in the championships of Siberia, and at the age of 12 he went to his first all-Russian championship and took second place there. Classmates admired Roman, but the teenager passed away "star fever". He says that this is the merit of his mother, who was his class teacher.

When Vlasov was 15 years old, his mother met a man and left for Bulgaria. For him, his elder brother became a family. Roman himself at that time had already entered the school of the Olympic reserve and trained hard. After college, he continued his studies at the law faculty of the Novosibirsk Agrarian University. The athlete says that he is a bad lawyer, it was just easier to enter this university.

Fight

Vlasov's coaches say that he has a strong character and another invaluable quality - he knows how to tune in to every fight. From the age of 15, the wrestler constantly played in the Russian national team at various championships and became a prize-winner. But then a black streak followed in Vlasov's sports biography.

In 2007, the athlete was injured and was forced to miss the 2008-2009 competition. Roman Vlasov received a complex shoulder fracture after the second European Championship. He recalls that at that moment he was pursued not by physical, but by mental pain due to the fact that he would not be able to play sports for some time. The athlete was operated on by the best surgeons of Novosibirsk, after which there was a long rehabilitation and training again.

In 2012, the athlete entered the service in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, which did not prevent Vlasov from continuing training and performing in Greco-Roman wrestling competitions.

In the summer of 2012, Roman Vlasov represented Russia at the London Olympics and brought back a gold medal from there. The following year, at the World Championships in Budapest, he won silver. 2015 was a landmark year for the athlete - he won the World Championship in the United States.

In 2016, Roman Vlasov represented Russia at the Rio Olympics. The athlete had high chances of receiving medals. Despite all the problems associated with the doping scandal in the Russian national team, Roman Vlasov rose to the first step of the podium, becoming a two-time Olympic champion.

Unlike the London Olympics, this time Roman Vlasov performed in a heavier weight category: up to 75 kg, instead of 74 kg, in which the wrestler regularly appeared in competitions until 2015.

In addition to the gold medal of the Olympics itself for the high sports achievements demonstrated by Roman at these games, the athlete received the RF state award "Order of Honor".

Also, 2016 brought Vlasov promotion in the unsportsmanlike part of the wrestler's life. Roman received the military rank of "senior lieutenant".

Personal life

The wrestler is not married. He still lives in Novosibirsk, dreams of building a large house of his own, in which there will be many children.

In his free time from training, Roman reads books, enjoys swimming and skiing.

Roman Vlasov maintains an account on Instagram, where the number of the athlete's subscribers is tens of thousands. Roman has a busy training schedule, so most of the posted photos were taken in the gym, in training and competitions. But there are also photographs on the page in which an athlete is skiing in the mountains or just relaxing with family and friends.

fact

Roman Vlasov now

In 2017, the athlete became the winner of the World Cup in Abadan and confirmed his status as the champion of Russia at the competitions held in Vladimir. But the world championship this year, Roman Vlasov lost. The athlete flew out at the very beginning of the tournament, losing all chances of winning. This news, due to its unusualness and surprise, attracted even more attention than the next victories of the wrestler. In an interview on this matter, the athlete said that such a defeat would make him angrier next season, which would increase the athlete's future performance.

Sports commentators argue that the defeat was driven by a lack of crucial starts in the season to warm up. But the wrestler himself noted that in the Olympic seasons he had only three starts, which did not prevent him from winning.

In 2018, Roman Vlasov performed in Krasnodar at the competitions of the international tournament "Grand Prix of Ivan Poddubny" and became the winner of these competitions for the third time.
