When the teenager was 12 years old, a breeder from Togliatti came to one of the training sessions of the youth club. The novel, playing as a striker, attracted attention. After a short time, the teenager was offered to enter the Yuri Konoplev Football Academy.

In 2008, after a two-year stay at the academy, Roman is a member of the Togliatti football club in the second division of Russia. Cooperation with the club continued until 2015. In February of the same year, the management of Ural signed a full-fledged contract with the midfielder.

In 2016, Roman was called to the training of the Russian national football team. Up to this point, Yemelyanov was twice in the national team.
