Biography

Robin McLaurin Williams was born in Illinois in 1951. The family of successful Ford executive Robert Fitzgerald Williams and former model Laurie McLaurin Smith already had four children from previous marriages at the time of Robin's birth. The Williams were very rich. When Robin was 11 years old, the family moved from Chicago to the suburbs of Detroit, where they settled in a house of 40 rooms.

Williams later revealed that his wealth and famous pedigree (his father was from a prominent Evansville family and his mother was the senator's great-great-granddaughter) had not brought him happiness. The boy was lonely and communicated more often with maids than with his parents. Expensive toys and luxury did little comfort Robin, who was overweight and therefore very shy. In his childhood memoirs, the actor admitted that his only companion and friend in his early years was his imagination.

To overcome shyness and find friends Robin Williams helped a sense of humor, got from his mother. The first beauty of New Orleans once appeared at a charity evening in an expensive dress and with a piece of dark scotch on her teeth, giving food to talk about themselves for a few days. When Robin grew up as a child as a teenager, he managed to turn into the most popular guy in the class. He not only joked brilliantly, but also showed excellent acting abilities, which he developed in a dramatic circle.

After graduating from high school, Robin Williams decided to continue acting. In 1973, he became a student at the famous New York school Juilliard, where he studied theater for some time. But after 3 years he leaves on the advice of his teacher John Hausman, who already then realized that he had a talented actor in front of him. Hausman advised Robin to go to Los Angeles, as here he has nothing to learn.

Movies

Robin Williams' creative biography began after moving to Los Angeles, where he first appeared on the stages of various clubs as a stand-up comedian. One day Robin was seen by the famous producer George Schlatter and invited him to his popular TV show "Laugh-In". But after a while the project lost the viewer and was closed. The young artist had to return to his previous performances in clubs.

"Einstein from comedy," as robin Williams later called, made the audience laugh and achieved considerable success in this field. He was invited to the famous clubs of America, and then the UK, where the artist quickly becomes very popular and in demand. Soon he was invited to the Richard Pryor Show. In the cast of this program dreamed to get almost all comedians.

Robin Williams made his film debut in 1978. Director Garry Marshall once saw a comedian in one of the clubs and invited him to play an alien in the series "Happy Days." A successful debut as Mork prompted producers to create a comedy show called "Mork and Mindy." It was released on ABC in 1978 and was broadcast for four years. Since then, Mork is the most recognizable character in the United States.

The fame and popularity of Robin Williams, as it is called, are off the scale. His photographs appear on the covers of major newspapers and magazines. The artist is a regular guest of different shows. And he begins to actively act in movies. The main role in the film "Popeye" brought the actor even more fame. Two years later, in 1980, Robin Williams appeared in the comedy "World of Garp".

But the artist's incredible popularity had another, dark side. Robin was addicted to alcohol and drugs. Williams was able to stop on this path after the tragic death of friend and colleague John Belushi. They say that to help get rid of addiction the actor helped a friend of the owner of a bicycle shop, who gave Robin Williams a sports bike. This new hobby brought the artist back to his former life.

During this period, the actor opened a new facet of his talent - he starred in a "serious" movie and proved that he can not only comedic roles. It happened in 1987 in the picture "Good morning Vietnam" where he played the pacifist Kronauer. For this work Robin Williams received the first nomination for the Academy Award. But the turning point in the artist's career is the role in the film "Society of Dead Poets", released in 1988. Here Robin is an English literature teacher, John Keating. After these two films, Williams is perceived as an actor, who is able to have the widest range of images and different roles.

In "The Fisherman King," Robin appeared as a tramp Perry. This role and the central images that followed in "Mrs. Doutfire," "Jumanji," "The Clever Will Hunting" and "Where Dreams Lead" finally confirmed the actor in line with the stars of Hollywood first magnitude. The film "Smart Will Hunting" though gave a small fee, but brought the artist the Academy Award.

In the late 90s, when Robin Williams was over 50, he was already a Hollywood legend. But, nevertheless, the actor did not tire of surprising new facets of his talent. The most striking works of this period were the films "Photo for the Hour", "Kill Smuchi", "Insomnia" and "Secrets of the Past." These tapes came out in the early 2000s and immediately became favorite movie hits.
