Rika Kihira is a talented athlete from Japan who conquered figure skating fans with a difficult program at the world stages of the Grand Prix. The girl first hit the ice at the age of 5. Since then, the life of the parents is subject to the schedule of the young athlete. Ricky's mother had to leave the post of administrator and get a job in a supermarket in order to devote more time to supporting her youngest daughter.
Rika trains in the city of Nishinomiya. Then he transferred to the secondary school at Kansai University in Osaka. The family without hesitation moves to the area next to which the figure skaters training base is located. It is uncomfortable for the father to get to work, but the parents deliberately make sacrifices, as Rika demonstrates successful results at the rink.
In addition to figure skating, the girl is engaged in ballet, gymnastics and piano.
fact
Figure skating
The athlete, despite her young age, has a number of achievements that put her on a par with the world's strongest skaters. Rika is the youngest single skater in the history of figure skating to achieve a clean triple axel. The girl was 14 years old. It is worth noting that such a difficult jump was submitted to another figure skater from Japan, the silver medalist of the 2010 Olympic Games, Mao Asada. And the complexity of Kihira's program is constantly compared with it.
Rika, together with the coaches, are trying to keep the set high bar. Therefore, Kihira becomes the first athlete to complete 8 triple jumps in the free program. The girl trains with Mie Hamada and Yamata Tamura, famous experts in the world of figure skating.
Among their pupils are such ice stars as Marine Honda and Satsuki Muramoto, who won prizes at international competitions. Thanks to the coaching work, Japanese figure skating has reached a high level, and the athletes are seriously competing in the battle for places on the podium.
The figure skater's height is 154 cm. There is no exact information on weight, but the height of the jumps is estimated at 40-45 kg.
Kihira's debut took place in the 2016/2017 season at the Grand Prix stage among juniors in the Czech Republic, where she took 2nd place. At the next competition in Slovenia, Rika won the gold medal. It was here that the athlete cleanly performed the triple axel in the free program and scored the necessary number of points to win.
The 2017/2018 season started with gold at the Asian Cup in Hong Kong. The judges praised the axel with three turns. At the next stage of the Grand Prix among juniors in Latvia, Rika was only sixth after the short program because of a triple lutz ripped off. But the athlete pulled herself together and performed the free program perfectly, eventually taking 2nd place.
The Japanese figure skater constantly has to compete with Russian athletes. In competitions in Italy among juniors, Kihira lost points to Sofya Samodurova and Alena Kostornaya and won a bronze medal.
In the final of the Grand Prix among juniors in Nagoya, Japan, Rika performed a combination of a triple axel and a triple jump and became the first athlete in women's figure skating to perform such a bunch of difficult elements. However, she took only 4th place without finishing the jump.
At the 2018 Japanese Championships, Kihira won the bronze medal. But due to her age, she continues to perform in competitions among juniors, not showing high results - she is in 8th place. With the transition to adult figure skating, in the 2018/2019 season, the Japanese figure skater demonstrates her seriousness to win. Kihira won gold at the Ondrej Nepela Trophy of the Challenger series.
At the Grand Prix stage, at the NHK Trophy 2018 tournament, the figure skater wins another gold medal overall, displacing Japanese champion Satoko Miyahara and world champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva on the podium. In Grenoble, at the Internationaux de France tournament, Rica again becomes the first. But the athlete remains unhappy with the rental because of the mistakes she made, as she said in an interview.
In the final of the Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2018/2019 in Canada, the Japanese figure skater sets a world record with 82.51 points in the short program. Prior to that, the record belonged to the Russian woman Alina Zagitova, who in the short program at the Moscow stage of the Grand Prix received 80.78 points for the program.
The Vancouver Ice brought Rika Kihira another gold medal. After completing the free program, she gains a total of 233.12 points, which make her unattainable for competitors. For comparison: the silver finalist Alina Zagitova has a total score of 226.53.
