At the age of 20, Rick created the hit Never Gonna Give You Up, which made the singer world famous. The success of the song, which took first places in the charts of 24 countries, including the United States, contributed to the dance rhythm and the excellent voice of the performer.

Astley's debut album Whenever You Need Somebody, for which the guy wrote 4 songs as a composer, was released in 1987.
