Biography
Raul Castillo is the son of Raul H. Castillo and Adela Rodriguez de Castillo, Mexican immigrants who packed their bags to live in McAllen, Texas. It was in this state that Raul, his brother and sister were brought up.
The future actor begins to take an interest in comedy during his schooling; He therefore made his debut in plays for his school. Raul becomes more and more involved in his high school Dramatic Arts program and the revelation comes to him when he sees the film The Impasse of Brian de Palma. It's decided, he will be an actor! Inspired by the performances of John Leguizamo, Viggo Mortensen or Luis Guzman in the film, Raul decides to go to study at Boston University College of Fine Arts. Beyond acting, he also learned to write a play.
The actor forged a solid career in the theater for several years before having his first cinema experience in 2007 in Amexicano, a drama about Mexican and Italian-American immigration. The television then extended its arms to him and he made himself known in popular series like Nurse Jackie, New York District or Damages. The actor then explores the theme of immigration again in 2012 in The Girl, a drama by David Riker in which he plays Abbie Cornish and Will Patton.
Raul Castillo came out of the shadows in 2014 by slipping into the shoes of Ricardo "Richie" Donado Ventura in Looking. The series tells about the loves, joys and sorrows of three gay friends in San Francisco. This role allows the Texan to deliver a remarkable performance in the skin of Richie, rare homosexual representative of the Latin American community on television. Hailed by critics and the public, Castillo held this role during the 2 seasons of the show before it was canceled by HBO.
The comedian bounced back in 2015 by integrating the cast of season 2 of Gotham. He will play a great villain from the comics, Eduardo Flamingo, a dangerous and relentless contract killer who elevates murder to the rank of art. Castillo will also soon star in Ricky Gervais' film, Special Correspondents, a comedy-drama telling the story of a radio journalist forced to go to cover a conflict to avoid dismissal. Note that the actor will resume in 2016 his role in Looking for a TV movie which will close the series.
