The couple divorced 2 years after the birth of their son. Rene grew up with his mother, who had to work hard, so the boy was left on his own. His favorite hobbies were football, dancing and graffiti.

After leaving school, Rene went to study to be a culinary specialist. Young Baumann takes the pseudonym DJ BoBo and a year later, in 1986, takes the honorable 2nd place in the Swiss DJ Championship. Also among his DJ achievements is a trip to the German city of Memmingham in 1988, where he represents Switzerland. A brilliant victory at this show gives him the right to visit the center of dance music - Ibiza. Here Rene participates in the Top 10 Disco King and takes 3rd place.

Returning, DJ BoBo begins to closely engage in songwriting. In 1989 he recorded the single "I Love You" and published it in a small circulation of 400 thousand. The lack of promo does not allow the song to "shoot". The DJ tries again - in 1991 a new single "Let's grove on" is released.

And only from the third time BoBo's compositions sounded on all European dance floors. The single "Somebody Dance With Me", written by him in 1992, took 1st place in the charts of his native Switzerland and entered the top ten leaders in other countries of the Old World, having been awarded gold status.

Next year, the author will present to the public his debut album "Dance with me", which is literally stuffed with hits - "Take control", "Keep on dancing" and many others. At the same time, clips for these compositions are released, where Rene shows himself as a first-class dancer: she moves in her own special technique, which other performers then began to copy.

1994 brings BoBo an unprecedented success - his new composition "Everybody", written in the reggae style, goes platinum. The circulation of this song has indeed exceeded half a million.

From the outside it seems that only golden hits come out from under the author's hand. So, in 1995 such singles as “Let The Dream Come True”, “Freedom”, “Love Is All Around” were recorded. The public all over the world welcomes them with a bang. These classic Eurodance tracks are included in the singer's second album "There Is a Party".

With such a concert program, it was time to go on tour. At first, the musicians (the singer's team consisted of dancers and backing vocalists) traveled all over Europe with concerts. Every major city has unfolded a grand show with a brilliant production, vivid choreographic numbers and special effects. Then BoBo went on tours in South America, Asia, Australia. Everywhere he collects whole stadiums.

Soon the third album "Just for you" with remixes of the best songs appeared in the singer's discography. The disc has become even more danceable and dynamic. It also includes new songs - songs “It's Time For Christmas”, “Love Is The Price”, “Let's Come Together”.

By the end of 1995, DJ BoBo became the most famous Swiss musician in the world. The tour in support of this disc started from Moscow - the concert took place in the heart of the capital, on Red Square. Until the end of the 90s, Rene will present 3 more albums: "Magic", "Level 6" and "The Ultimate Megamix'99", each of which received its portion of success.

The performer marked the beginning of the new millennium with the release of his own biography entitled "Gestatten, René Baumann", after which a new period begins in his work. In 2001, the song "What a Feeling" in a duet with the singer Irene Kara conquers the European charts. Continuing to work in tandem, Baumann recorded duets with Melanie Thornton and Emilia Rydberg. Joint compositions were included in the anniversary collection "Celebration", dedicated to the decade of the DJ's creative activity.

It is impossible not to note the completely unexpected success of the single "Chihuahua", which flew around the world with lightning speed and became a favorite song of both adults and children. Who would have thought that this hit was created by Rene for a commercial for Coca-Cola, and in the end took another award at the World Music Awards. In 2007, DJ BoBo was preparing to represent Switzerland at the international Eurovision-2007 in Helsinki with the song "Vampires Are Alive", but, despite the status of the favorite, he did not overcome the semifinal stage.
