Childhood and youth
Pavel was born on April 23, 1957 in Moscow together with his twin brother Alexander. The brothers, judging by the family photos, grew up absolutely similar to each other. The boys' parents, Evgeny Petrovich and Galina Aleksandrovna Smeyan, worked in the field of cinematography: their father was an employee of Sovexportfilm, and their mother participated as the chief administrator in the production of Mosfilm studio.
In addition to the regular school, Pavel received a musical education in the class of wind instruments. After the 9th grade, the young man went to Leningrad to enter the nautical school, but soon changed his mind. Returning to Moscow, he became a student of the pop department of the Gnessin Music College in the saxophone class. During his studies, Pavel mastered playing the flute, trumpet, viola, guitar and keyboards. He was fond of the work of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.
After serving in the army, he was secretly baptized, observed all fasts and regularly attended Orthodox services. In 1977, together with Alexander, he auditioned for VIA "Victoria" and became a vocalist. In terms of popularity, the rock group was compared with the musical groups "Time Machine" and "Leap Summer". After a year of touring life, under the new law, Victoria's rockers took the form of Philharmonic Society employees, and then moved to Rosconcert.

Since 1980 Pavel has taken part in concert activities of the rock groups "Resurrection", "Festival". At the same time, at the suggestion of Chris Kelmi, who was recruiting the composition of the musical group to participate in the work of the Lenkom theater, Pavel Smeyan, together with his brother, got a place in the Rock Atelier group. Young musicians took part in Mark Zakharov's productions "Till" and "The Star and Death of Joaquin Murieta".
At the end of 1980, Alexander died tragically. In 1981, Pavel got the role of the Composer in the production of the Juno and Avos Theater to the music of the composer Alexei Rybnikov. After the brilliant premiere, an audio version of the play was recorded, in which all the male vocal parts were performed by Pavel Smeyan. The song "I will never forget you" received the status of a hit of the early 80s and went to the people.
In 1980, Pavel Smeyan's voice sounded in the film "The Trust That Burst", where, on the recommendation of Nikolai Karachentsov, the singer sang a song by Maxim Dunaevsky. A year later, the composer invited the musician to the project "Mary Poppins, Goodbye", in which Pavel got the role of Robert Robertson. The musician performed solo songs "33 cows", "Bad weather" ("Bad weather"). Together with Tatiana Voronina, performer of the part of Mary Poppins, he sang the hit "Wind of Change" in a duet. Personal life
Pavel Smeyan was officially married twice. The first wife of the musician was the aspiring singer Natalia Vetlitskaya, who helped Pavel record the song "Bad weather". Death
Since the end of 2008, Pavel Smeyan felt unwell, the artist assumed that he had developed pancreatitis. But, having been examined in March 2009, the singer received a disappointing diagnosis - pancreatic cancer. By May, with the help of friends, as well as with the participation of the Maria Mironova Charitable Foundation and the Yevgeny Leonov Foundation of the Lenkom Theater, the necessary amount was collected for the operation, which was planned to be carried out in Germany.
In Dusseldorf, Pavel underwent three operations, but Smeyan's heart could not withstand the load, which was the cause of the artist's death. The singer died on July 10 without regaining consciousness after the third surgery. The death came as a complete surprise to his wife and mother, who were left alone with a baby in their arms. The musician was transported to Moscow, where he was buried in the Khovanskoye cemetery next to the graves of his father and brother.
In memory of the singer, in 2011, three albums were released with hits performed by Pavel Smeyan: "Two Loves", "Last Chance" and "In the Hot Fog of the Day". In 2017, the musician's friends released another commemorative disc "Aged Wine", which included Paul's songs "It All Starts with Love", "To Meet You", "Don't Believe January", as well as musical compositions from the film "Mary Poppins, Do goodbye.
