Paula Hawkins is a British writer, author of the famous novel "The Girl on the Train" in the genre of psychological thriller.

The novel formed the basis for the film of the same name starring Emily Blunt, which was released in 2016.

Paula Hawkins was born on August 26, 1972 in Africa, in the capital of Zimbabwe, Harare. The girl's father was a journalist and professor of economics, dealt with financial issues. In Africa, the future writer lived until she was 17 and attended a private school for girls. Paula then moved to London, where she studied at the independent Collingham College in Kensington.

After that, the girl entered Oxford University, where, like her father, she studied economics, as well as political science and philosophy. Paula says that she has never encountered such a phenomenon as the writing block, but more than once found herself in a situation where the plot reaches a dead end, from where it is difficult to find a way out. Relying on the opinions of others and not working on the novel alone is, by Paula's own admission, the best advice she has ever received.

Paula admits that the idea to write a novel about a man traveling by train and witnessing a strange incident came to her during her own trips to and from London. The writer also said that while working on the book, she was inspired by the films of Alfred Hitchcock, with their atmosphere of paranoia and insecurity experienced by the characters.

Paula's agent sent out offers to publishers when the novel was only half finished, and immediately received a positive response.
