Being an avid reader and lover of literature, the man once decided to start writing and made the right decision: his books are sold in large editions, receive awards and are translated into other languages, including Russian. fact
Childhood and youth
Patrick James Rothfuss was born in 1973 in Madison, the capital of Wisconsin. A loving family encouraged the child's passion for reading, and by the end of school he had read 2,000 books, each of which became the creative fuel for a future writing start. The author ironically that this love was caused by the long northern winters and the lack of cable TV in the house.
I don't dress up very often. But when I do it, I try to do it well ....
Since 1991, the guy began to study at the University of Wisconsin, where he stayed for 9 years. Initially, he studied chemical technology, but realized that it was boring, and decided to change his specialty to a clinical psychologist. The young man did not like it here either, and he continued his search. It took a long time to decide on the vocation, so the young man went through an arbitrary set of disciplines, moving from course to course. As a result, Patrick graduated with a bachelor's degree in English literature.

In his student years, the future science fiction writer collaborated with the university newspaper The Pointer, leading a parody column "College Survival Guide", which was analyzed for quotes. He also wrote poetry and scripts for humorous podcasts. The guy also had a more ambitious occupation - work on the epic fantasy "A Song of Fire and Thunder", which dragged on for several years.
The graduate decided to continue his education at the University of Washington, where he graduated from his master's degree and returned to his native land to teach at Stevens Point College.
fact
Books
The writer calls his first literary experience a brochure about dinosaurs, created in early childhood. However, the author recognizes the plot of the work as weak and insists that the manuscript needs serious editing. For the first time, Patrick was closely involved in creativity while studying at the university. He continued to work on the novel A Song of Fire and Thunder, already working as a teacher, and in 2002 finally decided to submit the manuscript to publishers.
The beginning author was disappointed: many years of work did not find a response from any of the editors and invariably returned back. It took the novelist 7 years to write the book. He spent the same amount of time on revision, correcting the material after each refusal. As a result, Rothfuss reworked part of the plot and created on its basis the story “The Road to Levinshire”, which he sent to the “Writers of the Future” literary competition. Here Patrick won the Science Fiction nomination.
After receiving the award, the author interested the publishers and was able to conclude a contract with DAW Books, which took over the publication of the book. It was decided to divide the work into several parts and to title the cycle “Chronicles of the King's Assassin”. The first part came out in 2007 and was called “The Name of the Wind”.
The main character is the wandering actor Quote, who undertakes to avenge the deaths of his loved ones, but meets an unknown dark tribe of Chandrian. The war with demons requires new skills from the hero, and he decides to master the secret knowledge of the conquest of the elements.
The book, which has been going to the reader for 14 years, made the writer famous overnight, taking a number of prestigious awards and getting on the New York Times bestseller list. Fans were eagerly awaiting the sequel, which came out in 2011 and was called Fears of the Sage. The second part of the story about the young Kvout topped the list of bestsellers and strengthened the fame of the author, recognized as a modern classic of fantasy.
The final part of the "Doors of Stone" trilogy has not yet been published, but the writer has created several short stories set in the Kingkiller universe. Patrick's bibliography includes another cycle of works. It is dedicated to the adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle, it includes "The Thing Under the Bed", "The Darkness of the Deep Caves" and "Storm Tree". The last book in the series, The Peaceful Dignity of Silence, was published in 2014.

He lives in Wisconsin with his wife Sarah and two children whom he calls Oot and Cutie Sleep. These are known to be cute nicknames, not real names.
In the blog, the science fiction writer shares with readers the latest biography facts, fresh photos and creative plans. Patrick still spends his free time reading books, and also loves computer games, alchemical experiments and meeting with like-minded people. The television never appeared in his house.

The project is under development, and the release date of the film is not yet known. The film will be directed by Sam Raimi, who directed "Spider-Man" and the famous cycle "Evil Dead".
Rothfuss would like to be involved in casting for the roles of his characters, but admits that he has little understanding of filmmaking. At the same time, the man repeatedly starred as an invited guest in episodes of the show, including "Dungeons and Dragons", "Geek and Sandri", "Team C".
